Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Press Releases

Incident: Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute
Date of Incident: 3 February 2010
Location: 1000 block of East Road, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Damien L. Showell, 27, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 3 February 2010 at 10:00 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Damien Showell for inoperative brake lights across the street from Salisbury Middle School. The deputy became suspicious of Showell because of an overwhelming odor of raw marijuana that emanated from within his vehicle. While the deputy was investigating Showell and waiting for another deputy to arrive, Showell exited his vehicle and began running towards Morris Street. The deputy pursued Showell and caught him after a brief foot chase. Upon apprehension, the deputy discovered that Showell had concealed a substantial sized bag of marijuana in his sleeve. Further investigation of Showell’s vehicle revealed a supply of empty sandwich sized baggies and a separate baggie that held loose Xanax tablets.

Based on the amount of marijuana recovered and the empty baggies, it appeared evident that Showell intended to sell his supply. The deputy transported Showell to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Showell in the Detention Center in lieu of $300,000.00 bond.
