Are You Ready?

Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia, you are going to get the worst of this winter storm. It will set in later Friday then really go to town Friday night into Saturday morning. Snow accumulations along this portion of the I-95 corridor will be upwards of a foot, and there could be more. Later Friday night and Saturday morning, the wind will grow stronger causing the snow to blow around quite a bit.

The factors behind this major winter event are shown here. The jet stream is diving southward where it is scooping up a lot of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Atlantic moisture will eventually be added to the mix.

Friday, the storm will begin to thrust all of that moisture into the much colder stream of air to the north. The result will be billions upon billions of snowflakes from the Midwest to the Eastern Seaboard. The heavily populated areas of the mid-Atlantic region can expect the worst of the storm from later Friday through Saturday morning.

(Just for something to do during the storm, try to picture those billions and billions of snowflakes as the billions and billions of dollars that were spent on the Stimulus package-- the snowflakes will probably be more effective, because they will put a lot more people to work.. :-)

The track of the storm will determine where the 'freeze line' is-- much of Delmarva south of Delmar may see mostly mixed/rain (though heavy, for sure), with some accumulation, but we won't know for sure till the storm is almost here.

Be prepared for major travel delays and closings, and be sure you're ready for whatever comes.

Cans of gasoline setting ready for our generator to run well pump and lights. Firewood cut and stacked on the porch. Propane bottles full, for portable heaters and BBQ grill. Plow on the front of our P/U truck. salter on back. Snow blade on the tractor. Milk, bread, and food on hand and enough toilet paper for all of Wicomico County. (just kidding) Five 4X4 vehicles. I think we are ready.

The effect of the storm will be like the Obama administration. No one will go to work until long after it is over.

Stocked up at Walmart, got my laundry caught up and dishes washed and a pot of soup already made for tomorrow night! Husband dug out a generator, went and got gas, found a kerosene heater and a lantern. He always has a supply of batteries and flashlights on hand as I do candles...we're ready!

I hope paretns of students in the school system are ready for an early closing. I saw on the DC news tonight that many schools over there are already announcing that they will be closing early tomorrow. If there would be an early dismissal, parents would be called by Dr. Fredicksen's new phone link toy and the media outlets would carry the announcement as well....get ready....heeeeeeeeeeere it comes!
