Senate Dems Lose Supermajority Today

First thoughts: Back to 59

Brown to be sworn in later this afternoon, officially ending the Dems’ Senate supermajority… The debate over national security continues… The real story in that R-word controversy -- someone has it out for Rahm… Looks like the Dem gubernatorial primary in IL will come to an end, but the GOP contest is separated by just 406 votes… Dan Coats’ tough start… Poizner presser blowing up in his face?... And time for tea -- that is, the Tea Party convention.

I'm happy to see this guy coming to the Senate but I have to say that I'm a little ticked off that the Republican party is changing the rules to get him seated sooner than normal.
Isn't this stuff what the Republicans accuse the Democrats of all the time?
Changing the rules for their own benefit?

I don't want to see the health care plan shoved down our throats anymore than the next citizen but you know timing is set for the seating of elected officials so why does there have to be a change for this Senator?

I just don't get it!

Ted Kennedy was seated immediately every year, no rule broken we just asked for equality.

11:50 get your facts straight. He has been certified after the ENTIRE waiting period under the MA constitution. drunken murderer teddy was sworn in the following day and CERTIFIED weeks later. It is the dumbos that wanted to shove another couple of marxists into labor positions before the r's could block them. One of which wants to circumvent a Senate vote and by rule institute card check.

12:09 you are wrong. Senators aand Congressman are elected in the beginning November and seated inthe beginning of January for every normal election. Scott Brown has been expedited.

So was Tsongas and Kennedy, they were seated THE NEXT DAY. 1239 this was a special election to fill a deceased current Senator, remember?

Don't worry. Nancy will give herself anothr botox shot, Steny will have another drink, and poor ole Harry will once again wander off into the desert where the heat has done in his commonsense.

Again, a "supermajority" is not needed on most legislation. 51 votes still wins in most cases, and the Democrats have 59.

Unless you are all in favor of a full-tilt fillabuster-rama shutting down everything between now and November.

That is a way to accomplish one's goals, I guess. Depending on what those goals are and who they benefit.

I thank God every day for giving our Founding Fathers the wisdom to put in the Constitution ways to prevent attempts like the leftist Marxist in the White House from destroying our country. They were truly genius.
