Wicomico County Executive, Its All About Control

Its not easy being a City Council or County Council Member. The pay sucks, the attacks from citizens and the media sucks but quite frankly there's a reason why there's so many problems.

When you listen to Candidates campaign they are forever telling us they want to be accountable. They claim they want open government. However, once they get elected it becomes more about power and control.

It also becomes a game of who can keep what from the public. What's more concerning is the word protocol. Salisbury and Wicomico County have spent many years creating rules and legislation making every attempt to keep the public, (you know, us taxpayers) from actually knowing what's really going on.

I can tell you first hand that I have personally gone to these elected officials with a ton of damning topics, all of which were swept under the rug and that is what started and created Salisbury News.

Its letters like the one above that fear them most. Letters NOT intended for the MSM or Blogs, yet some how, some way these messages and information make its way in the mail or even hand delivered to me personally. WHY, because SOME people care enough to want to publick, (us taxpayers) to know just what's really going on behind PROTOCOL doors.

The "chain of command" is exactly what got former Mayor Barrie Tilghman in so much trouble with the Blogs and ultimately media. More importantly it caused serious damage in her political career. Allow me to explain.

The chain of command system works like this. As an employee you see a problem that needs immediate attention. You go to your supervisor with the complaint. If they feel it worthy of bringing it to the next level they go to their boss. IF their boss chooses to DROP it completely, it stops right then and there. Now, you can make a formal complaint and put your job on the line by demanding it go to your Boss' Boss. (yes, there are that many levels and you've yet to reach the Mayor or County Executive. If the highest boss decides it will be dropped, the Mayor or County Executive NEVER come to learn what the situation actually is. Well, let's just say for the record they can claim they never knew.

More importantly, as a taxpayer, holding a public official accountable is the key to open and honest government. We have seen enough of this crap wheras our local leaders get too big for their britches and scare the crap out of employees from ever saying a word. Then someone like me who receives such information gets a taget on their back and the next thing you know someone like, oh, let's say the Sheriff then starts withholding information too. Are you getting my drift? More and more we're becoming more like a communist country with dictators sending out letters like the one above, God Forbid they're actually accountable.

Oh well, you take a look at the message and make your own call on its intent. In my opinion, I want my County Council People and Employees NOT to be afraid. This is NOT a private company. It's a company, (if you will) owned by you and me. Oh sure they've got an 800 number. That's so they can get the heads up before the preverbial sh!t hits the fan and for NO other reason. They want time to cover things up and a head start.

This entire group of quasi-government officials is so lame. Could someone over there please tell them to quit fooling around and cut our taxes.

3:20 PM Posting is right. Another Landfill scam is about to be exposed.

Part of what happened at the County landfill right after the last hurricane is a prime example of your County government gone complacent. Fact is - the County never intended to open the landfill on that Sunday. By now the news has spread to Sierra Manor, Kilburnie, Chesapeake Heights, Autumn Terrace, Kaywood, and other developments on the east side - and on the West Side of town also. Pollitt was 'a sleep at the wheel' and was unresponsive to the citizens need to have the landfill open to remove the hurricane debris.

Thank god the citizens took the situation into their own hands and opened-up the landfill themselves.

All of the Finnerman propaganda and cover-up cannot hide what actually transpired right after the hurricane.

Wow - if this isn't censorship I don't know what is. Next - they'll be burning all of the books in order to try and irradicate individualism.

I'm not quite sure this is even legal.

Pollitt is just like Hitler he will control you or else! Time for a change of command all the way around. Ricky has no idea of what open Government is because it's his way or the highway. His head is buried so far up his own a-- he won't be able to see daylight for many years to come. Look how he's stacking all of the local boards in his favor with YES men and women this county is ruined until we fight back and get him outta there!

Then you have the city mayor who withholds info from the council.

Too bad Salisbury doesn't have an impeachment process.

I was waiting in-line at the Pemberton landfill and that is why they had to redirect the debris traffic through the gated section as their was no county personnel.

The county executive's office does not want the public to know that the landfill workers had been given the day off. The action created the long lines and irritated the public.

This is interesting. I can see where they are coming from and why they say go through the "chain of command" and the PIO, thats how all companies and corporations do it. That is the NORMAL way to operate or "Politically correct way" But the employees should be free go go to the Executive and talk to him. I found the entire council to ALL be completly irresponsible and not paying attention to the necessities at hand of what's happening in the county. They want to get rid of the executive position and take over all of the county government. That is WRONG!!! As well all they want to do is stire up inter-office problems with in the govenment. They all need to learn to work together. I found that the Council is the MAJOR problem over the executive. No wonder he has such a hard time. The council are a bunch of WAY under-educated, opionated people that don't think about the county and just them selves. They need to open up their eyes. I hope none of the council get re-elected.

4:34pm My hope is YOU never ever get elected to anything. If you can't understand something as simple as this memo to the employees and the Charter requirments, then you are the one who is WAY under-educated.

7:05 I could not agree with you more.

7:05 is probably one of those disgruntled educators that just can't swallow the fact that Wicomico's educational system is being hampered by a bad economy.

If 7:05 isn't satisfied - he or she can always quit. As my father used to say - 'don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out'

Shameful.

I really don't see anything wrong with the letter. Any information that should come from the county should be verified, and there is a chain of command.

I guess John Redden is still Acting ,that is why there is no Title after his name. Really pitiful.

It is so sad to see what the County has become.
