STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S CALL TO REDUCE THE NATION’S DEFICIT IN A FAIR AND BALANCED WAY

ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 29, 2011) – Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement on President Obama’s call to reduce the nation’s deficit in a fair manner:

“More than 55 percent of the nation’s projected deficit is a direct result of the Bush era tax cuts - tax cuts that disproportionately benefit the very wealthiest 3-percent of Americans.

“A return to the Clinton-era tax rates for millionaires and billionaires is a fiscally responsible and necessary step to help put our country on solid footing for recovery. I commend President Obama for his leadership on this matter. What we need right now is to remain laser focused on creating jobs, not on protecting special interest tax breaks for the wealthiest 3-percent of Americans.

“I urge Congress to come together and work to reduce the deficit in a balanced way that benefits all Americans.”

I guess I am uninformed, how could tax cuts under Bush add up to 14 trillion dollars. What about bailouts, stimulus monies, government waste, over-regulation, big government, etc.????

Bush left office in 08. Dem's took over congress in 06. The debt when Bush left was 2.5 trillion Now its 14 plus trillion. What do you not understand about that? Its like two blonds were talking, and 1 said "14 Brazilians were killed in a earthquake today. The other said "That must be a bunch of people. How many are in a bazillian.

just over $3 trillion of the $14.27 trillion debt can be attributed to Bush-era tax cuts, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Medicare prescription drug program. Stimulus spending by Obama and tax cuts he signed into law accounted for about $600 billion through last Sept. 30

If you don't TROUNCE elected officials in the 2012 elections that are supporting these kind of agendas and messages, you need help.

Fair. FAIR. Once again, this is standard "fare" for the rank and file Democrats that "Tax cuts equal deficits". Nothing could be more upside down or farther from the truth.

What is more accuruate. Even if we gave the govt this "extra" cash, they would simply keep spending anyway.

What is needed? Give the citizens the money to spend as they see fit and see the economy grow in every sector, in every walk of life.

Reducing the deficit requires responsible spending, something that Democrats or Republicans (as a whole) have been unable to accomplish.

Obama needs to go, so does O'Malley.

I hear the same Ole BS every year. It's his fault. It's their fault. This group was in power so it's their fault.

It's everyone's fault but nothing changes. Nothing gets fixed. More rhetoric. More empty promises. More blame.

Why can't someone just stand up and say, this is broken and this is how to fix it?

Why can't someone who professes to love their country and wants to help, do just that?

They got us going around in circles chasing our tails and blaming everything under the sun but nothing changes.

Doesn't it strike anyone else odd that people spend millions upon millions to win a seat for public service? Positions that will never pay anything near what they invested.

It's not the seats that pay. It's the back door deals and scratching each others backs. They get rich and we get screwed. Every election, every post.

My little post will not change anything either. But doesn't any of this make you wonder?
