Federal contractor Bechtel Corp. says it is considering moving its offices out of Frederick to another location in the Washington area.
The Frederick News-Post reports that the company told its 2,000 Frederick workers on Thursday that the leases on its Frederick offices are up for renewal. According to the article, Bechtel is the county’s fourth largest employer.
A company spokeswoman told the newspaper that Bechtel views the event as an opportunity to compare the advantages of Frederick to other locations in the Washington area.
Bechtel, which is headquartered in San Francisco, moved three divisions to Frederick in 2004.
Those divisions have coordinated many international projects, including nuclear reactors and $2.3 billion in construction contracts in Iraq.
