I live in Hebron and just drove by - the fire is in the field at the junction of 347 and rt. 50 - looks to be a LARGE fire, with flames in excess of 15-20' high - looks like multiple responders from several companies as well - just passed a SBY tanker coming down 50 at 3:40 or so....God Bless the Firefighters.

Probably caused by some smoker indiscriminantly tossing a smoldering cigarette butt. Maybe not, but all those that smoke should be conscientious of tossing cigarette butts, especially during these dry spells.

i heard a nuclear robot from nasa landed there and exploded! it was carrying vital information about homosexual behaviors on mars. evidentally it was abducted by vegan weight-lost gurus and forced to sing old country songs!

347 is now closed off to traffic going onto 50...local news says fire is contained with 15 companies attending...looks pretty big...

4:17pm--sure blame it on the smokers. What a stupid statement to make.

Joe
That was funny.....even funnier that the comment came in at 4:20. I got a giggle out of that also.

I am not a smoker, but I am involved in wildland firefighting. While a discarded smoke can, under extreme circumstances cause a wildfire, it is fairly rare that a cigarette or cigar butt is the cause.

Usually when these fields of hay stubble burn, it is caused by an overheated bearing in a piece of farm equipment, or someone nearby carelessly burning trash.

Since we had thunderstorms last evening, it could also have been a lightening strike from the storm. These strikes can smoulder for hours or days, until the wind and humidity conditions are right for the fire to flare up in a big way.

Needless to say, whatever the cause turns out to be, be careful with all burning materials and open fires. Remember, Only You Can Prevent Forest (or in this case grass) Fires!

It's almost 9:00 PM and they are still out there. If Bushy Beech knew what he was doing he could have stopped it in the beginning. That guy is a loser and they keep voting him in as their Far Cheef!!

Obama's most recent lies got some people so hot that they actually ignited the fields around them! Or, maybe it was O'Malley's. Hard to tell these day with all of them lying.

they fire was caused by a fork lift that was being used to load the straw into a truck from the field.

they couldn't put it out before it got big?

I've seen him not too long ago. He still acts immature like he was in high school. They probably keep voting him in so they won't have to hear him cry.

Bush Beach needs to go. Maybe it's time for Wicomico County to implement a paid fire department to get a handle on these deadbeats running the volunteer fire departments. Running them into the ground that is.

7:18 - You're kidding, right? The schools' budget has been cut $15 million in two years, and you want to ADD a paid county service? Where in the world (or, specifically, Wicomico County) is the money going to come from for that? I thought you conservatives said government isn't the answer.
