There's one topic I'd like to share with all of you that isn't be touched by the MSM in the Gulf Disaster.
Most of the wildlife, (such as this Pelican) will not survive. They will try to cleans themselves and in doing so they will ingest these toxins and die. While all these efforts are honorable and make for great photo ops, one thing is certain, most of them will die.
Tonight the MSM finally mentioned coral reefs. There's so much more to this man made disaster outside of financial losses by many companies and businesses.
The outrage by Americans should be huge.

So do you think all this wildlife will become extinct to the area?
Maybe you should do your research. Once cleaned a birds chance of survival is 50-80% at least to the point where they can be released back into the wild. So most of them will actually live and have a chance. So this is actually a really good thing and not just a photo op. Shame on you.
In the very least many will become endangered. The Pelakins just came off the endangered list. No question they'll be back on very soon.
anonymous 9:29, IF you think you're so smart, why no links to prove what you're saying is true? Because you're anonymous and all your interests are is to belittle what I'm saying.
Oil is toxic. If YOU or a Bird ingests such toxins you will die. Now, if you think these rescue people are getting to 10% of these animals, (especially after OBAMA wants everyone to stay away from volunteering at this time) you're crazy. Most, meaning 95% of these animals will die. ALL of the fish will die. ALL of the coral reefs will die, should it reach Florida.
So take your information and shove it. Many of the images you're seeing right now are photo ops, period.
President McCain would have fixed this already. This is what happens when you "elect" a foreigner instead of a hero.
Joe, these aren't photo opps but you are right that even cleaned, a lot of these animals and birds have already been exposed long enough to where the majority will die. The stats are all over the place, from only 1% surviving to the numbers you see above.
These photos are human beings who care hoping and praying they can save a few early enough, kind of like catching a cancer before it spreads. I applaud these folks because it must be gut wrenching to work so hard knowing your efforts will pay off for a relatively few.
But that few may make the difference between extinction and not.
Folks should Google airlift animal rescue efforts and donate to that. These projects get the animals out of harms way and relocate them until things are cleaned up (or just relocate them since hope is dying right along with the oil).

Joe, you are correct I have said it from day one.. we WILL lose species of animals because of this.... folks will take this more serious when it starts to effect them monetarily.... oil will most likely be off our coast by August.
Remember this---- many of the organisms that sustain the food chain like plankton, shrimp, small fish, clams, oysters, crabs, etc, just can't get out of the way of this unbelievably massive, toxic, and long lasting oil spill....they will be utterly destroyed and in many large swaths of marsh and shallow areas, will never recover and even their eggs will not hatch. The effects on the food chain will be absolutely devastating...alligators, snakes, turtles and other slow moving predators will either die of toxic intake or starvation (who's gonna catch alligators for cleaning??). Their young will also die, slowly and extremely painfully. Ever been in a swamp? The oil CANNOT be cleaned out ---humans can't move in it, boats and cleaning machines can't manuver well enough to be effective and the environment is a complicated landscape that can't easily be manipulated. This is a DECADES long disaster....the 20 billion BP says its gonna put in escrow??? Its a drop in a bucket....they don't have enough money for this....
