Johnson & Johnson Hired Fake Shoppers To Buy Up Bad Motrin, Avoid Public Recall

Ever since the FDA and Congress started asking Johnson & Johnson to explain why it keeps recalling medicine, there have been references to an unpublicized "recall" that happened in November 2008. Last month, at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, a J&J executive swore that the company didn't mean to mislead anyone. It turns out that wasn't exactly accurate: Bloomberg has obtained emails from J&J's company, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, that show executives knew the secret recall would trigger an FDA reaction if the agency got wind of its full scope.

See this really bugs me. It just goes to show you that large companies do not care about people or the country in general, they just care about profit. Now profit is a great motive and there is nothing wrong with that but this just goes to show that we can not have a 100% capitalist system. There has to be some checks and balance, just like in our politcal system.

Now some of you may argue that it is the markets place to regulate this company, and to punish it for behavior which the market feels is not acceptable. But how is the market going to punish J&J? Are you all going to stop buying all of J&J's 80+ consumer brands, or products made with items produced by J&J. Thats just not possible in todays age of super companies.

Companies like this have so much wealth and so much power in todays world. And you know what they say about power... it always corrupts. Just look at our government.

Just to pass along some helpful info... you can go online and visit www.mcneilproductrecall.com and request a refund (not coupon) for the products you purchased. I've already gotten my check for $42. No comfort whatsoever after having given recalled medicine to my infant, of course.
