Fatal Crash West Of Lewes

Location: John J. Williams Hwy (SR24), 2/10 mile east of Mulberry Knoll Rd. (CR284); 3miles west of Lewes

Date of Occurrence: Tuesday April 27, 2010 at 0900 hours

Operators/ Vehicles Involved:

Gale Daddona, 45, Lewes, DE operating a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

John W. Mills, III, 58, Denton, MD operating a 2006 PeterBuilt dump truck

Delaware State Police are investigating a two vehicle crash that killed a Lewes woman.

The crash happened today at approximately 9 a.m. when Mills was operating a dump truck westbound on John J. Williams Hwy, SR 24, just east of Mulberry Knoll Road at the same time Daddona was approaching from the opposite direction. For an unknown reason Daddona’s Chevrolet Cavalier went out of control and began to spin counterclockwise into the westbound land, exposing the passenger side to the oncoming dump truck. The dump truck struck the right driver’s side of the Cavalier resulting in a collision.

Daddona was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of massive blunt force trauma. Mills was transported to Beebe Hospital in Lewes for observation but had no reported injuries.

Both operators were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. The investigation is still on going. No charges have been filed.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours.
