Arizona Governor Jan Brewer last week signed a new law into effect that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 60% of voters nationwide favor such a law, while 31% are opposed.
Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans support the law along with 62% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Democratic voters are evenly divided on the measure.
At the same time, however, 58% of all voters are at least somewhat concerned that “efforts to identify and deport illegal immigrants will also end up violating the civil rights of some U.S. citizens.” That figure includes 29% who are Very Concerned about possible civil rights violations.
Voter support for empowering local police comes at a time when most voters (56%) believe it is unlikely Congress will take action to gain control of the border.

I am in favor of it. If we are legal, we have nothing to hide.
If I am walking down the street and an officer asks for my ID, I show him my ID. I am not going to give him a hard time because it is a waste of energy and I have nothing to hide.
If I decided to be a pain in the a$$ I could deny it but he would just find reason to make me produce it, so why bother with all the drama?
Illegals are no different. If they want to be in America then there should be no issue proving they are here legally!
I am soooo sick of illegals having more control over this country than true American made citizens. If they have such an issue with America...there is a simple solution: get the hell out.
why not just rewrite the law to clarify that police are allowed to check on immigration status when they stop someone suspected of comitting a crime (i.e. traffic stop, supspicious person, person of interest).
Im personally not in favor of this as it will cause profiling of anyone that looks ethnic. plus it will open a gate for law enforcement to seek further ways of invading peoples privacy. and no i am not for illegal immigrants they are a drain on the US but i have seen so many ways that law enforcement have come up with to harrass people plain and simple
