A Quote From Our Mayor Jim Ireton

"I believe we live in one of the greatest communities and that we should protect our quality of life in every way possible. I want Salisbury to know that help is here."

Jim, if this is true, we have two unsolved Cold Case Murders in the City. How many other people have to die before you step in and make a difference?

If this is true, why is Salisbury the 10th Most Dangerous City In America, (per capita) and you still continue to allow Chief Webster to represent us through the SPD?

LEADERSHIP means many things Mayor Ireton. Leadership means that others want to follow. Not only is morale at an all time low in the SPD, citizens are worried for their lives. Crime was NOTHING like it is ever since Chief Webster came on board. It's NOT the economy that brought these figures to Salisbury. The stats are at least a year old and it will be another year before we find out just how bad things are this year.

If the citizens don't like Webster's Leadership, the Police Officers don't like his Leadership and you're still a bit confused, here's how you can resolve your decision making.

Are the citizens in Wicomico County pleased with the Leadership of Sheriff Mike Lewis? Are the Deputies working under Sheriff Lewis pleased with his Leadership? If its 2:30 AM in the morning and someone has been shot, do YOU trust that Sheriff Lewis will climb out of bed and race to the scene, even if its in the City of Salisbury?

Webster's not even going to answer his phone, let alone drive 40 miles back to Salisbury. Even while Webster was home from his Honeymoon, he didn't come to comfort those citizens after the most recent murder. He stayed at home and relaxed, proving he couldn't care less because he forgot where he came from.

The quote above are your words Jim. Live up to them and start giving the taxpayers of Salisbury what they deserve. Forgive me for speaking for others but what I hear from other citizens is, they want a Police Chief who wears a uniform. They want a Police Chief that lives in Salisbury. Officers simply want a new leader who also wears a uniform. The GQ style of leadership never has worked. Threats of lawsuits all the time from a Department Head is complete B.S. Jim and everyone knows it.
Help is NOT on the way Mayor Ireton, nor is it here. For the sake of your own loved ones, send this man packing. What would Sheriff Mike Lewis do, Jim?
I should add: LEADERSHIP is the position YOU now hold Jim. Thousands of people chose you to LEAD Salisbury in the right direction and it seemed pretty clear during the Campaign that YOU knew where the flaws were in the City and the changes that were necessary to put us in the right direction. With all due respect Mayor, LEAD!

It is obvious that Webster is not a proper police chief. He isn't even dedicated enough to live in the City? WTF

If Jim Ireton is also a member of a secret society, then, please let them know to choose another person for Police Chief.

Americans are used to being ruled by members of secret societies. We continuously elect them into public offices. We have no problem with it. However, they MUST DO THE JOB. As long as their secret obligations do not conflict with their public positions, we have no problem.

We are beginning to wonder, what is the agenda? We understand you and Chiefy may not be able to tell us (the citizens). But surely, you can convince the other members of your organization that it is time for change.

If secret societies fail to appease the citizens, their membership will come under fire. Surely, you understand this!

We don't need another Friday the 13th.

removing Webster, or at least requiring him to play a more active roll in policing Salisbury, was one of the major reasons I voted for Jim.

Very good article Joe, now lets wait and see if Jim reads and takes this and takes action.

Joe, save your breath. This psuedo mayor is just along for the resume-building ride. He doesn't give a damn about Salisbury's crime problem any more than Chiefy does. I think the people who, unfortunately it seems, supported him during the election are seeing through his bs. Let's get me elected and then see where the political path takes me.

You act as if this is only about you Joe. You act like a spoiled brat that has tantrums whenever you lack self serving satisfaction. It's not all about you Joe. This issue is complicated, due process must prevail. Grow up.

Why don't you just run next time Joe? You seem to have all the answers. Or do you just prefer to walk around with that oversized camera complaining about things?

for real! I vote for this person! Well said!

The more you people push, the longer it's going to take. If Ireton were to go after the Chief right now, it would appear as though he were catering to special interests. (kind of familiar, given our last mayor, huh?)

How about if we just sit tight for a little while and let him work through his agenda? He's got some things in motion, let's see how they play out!

I will give JOe props for allowing conflicting opinions on here.

I think Mike lewis Has done an amazing job being there for our community, unlike chiefy - I saw Mike IN THE FLESH pull someone over, more than once - i also saw him IN THE FLESH eating at Daytons one sunday morning- its nice to see not EVERYONE in those positions thinks they are better than us, and that he can actually do things with the people who got him where he is today! someone please get chiefy outta my city..

The only difference between Ireton and Tilghman is that Barrie actively participated in her role as Mayor and took Salisbury into the toilet. Ireton just sits there with his title, does nothing, and watches the city sink even further. He is however available for every possible photo opportunity. I guess he likes seeing photos of himself. Makes him feel like he's doing something. What a joke.

I can tell you first hand moral is low here at SPD due to 2 reasons, no pay advances, and manpower. Thats its.

To :11:43
You mentioned due-process , that's
BS , in the state of Maryland you can fire anyone for anything . You
don't even need a reason. It's
called " At will employment" .
However , it is good to have records that indicate poor performance , and this is obvious.
Jim needs to get off his butt and
set the example . Of course , school are known to be sissies.
They are also known for not making
decisions , unless it is written in a text-book.

Nothing is being done and the way it looks, nothing will be done. I thought something might have changed by now but it hasn't. So complaining about the ppor performance of Webster is pointless. Since Webster isn't doing anything about the crime, I will be protecting my self while home and on the road. Yeah, take that statement anyway you want. I will protect my self and anyone who can't.

Anon 12:47 PM, are pay raises & manpower to be blamed on the Chief or the council?

The Chief appears to be doing an excellant job with the hand he has been dealt.

Chimera said...

There still rumor that he wants the job of Sheriff in Somerset....which is laughable when you consider his track record.

Personally I believe 70% the Council, 20% the Public and 10% the Chief.

12:47 has a point. My workplace just cut everyone's pay yet raised prices and the higher ups continue to take advantage of the system, using demo cars and company gas cards to fill up and I'm left to struggle. Morale in this area is horrible. Everyone I work with hates it here. We too have bad management so I feel your pain. Nothing gets done and ongoing problems are never dealt with. I've never seen so much negativity in my life. The flipside are those ppl that think this area is great and really dont know the truth. I wish I was one of those ppl.

12:47 and 1:50, bull!

The people who have fought the hardest to get Webster what he needs -- Campbell and Cohen -- are the same ones Webster, his newspaper and his blogger are trying to crush.

These two ladies have stood up to the worst bullying I've ever seen. I'll give Ireton time because I'm sure after 10 years, issues run deep.

But he needs to stand up to the bullies, too.

I'm still behind you, Mayor. Please don't disappoint!

Annon 2:47 I mention the Council in general and did not name Mrs. Cohen or Mrs. Campbell, both whom I have respect for. I agree with some of what you say. The bottom line is the Council majority is partially at fault with the morale at the SPD. Thats factual.

Two unsolved murder casses in salisbury? IMO one of these casses could be solved with common sense alone. The killer is setting in WCDC right now. William Burton AKA Boston Bill. HE seems to have quite a rep with the local hookers. Just my 2 cents

12:47 and the others. How quick everyone forgets. Chief Webster protected the past mayor's daughter. With that Webster bargained (which is against city charter) and had his contract changed to having to be fired by due cause. Actually all the city officals have to be fired that way. That is not normal at all, that is what Tilghman made sure of. All the stuff that happened with Tilghman is in the past, Ireton's due cause had to start when he became Mayor. Then he has to get all the council to agree.

The pressure should be applied to the city council members, they can make it happen just as quick.

Do not let a council member pass by you without asking why is the chief still here and what are they doing about crime and protecting the citizens.

Anyway, the best for Salisbury and the Wicomico is to combine into the Sheriff's office and have everyone work together.

Anonymous said...

I thought in the city charter - there had to be cause to fire a department head. I haven't heard anything substantial or concrete yet... what about job performance reviews? I wonder what those say.

Anonymous said...

12:04, so true! It seems Ireton is available for every photo opportunity sporting those "Risky Business" sunglasses, but nothing's been done for the city yet. Personally, I don't think he has enough of a spine to lead, but he talks a good game.

the drug dealers and prostitutes think webster's the man !!
Where are they supposed to go when SBY is no longer a criminal sanctuary and a rookie police officer training ground ??

Anonymous said...

Jim Ireton campaigned hard to say that help is on the way. Did he mean him, or the next mayor?

Anonymous said...

I don't live or own a business in Salisbury but I do frequent Salisbury for shopping and getting to and from work.
I wish you people who want to keep dwelling on the fact that Webster doesn't live in Salisbury stop focusing on that ONE point and focus on the REAL point....CRIME!
Quite a few police chief's here on the shore do not live in the towns they work for! Delmar has one, but nobody seems to care!

Anonymous said...

Where do you get the facts that Salisbury is one of the most dangerous cities per capita? Just curious

anonymnous 2;46, why can't you click on the link and READ. The information comes from the FBI.

Why is everyone being so quick to call Ireton a terrible mayor who has done nothing for the city of Salisbury. In politics, things take time. It is unfair to expect overnight change when there are thousands of hoops to jump through to even get one thing accomplished.

As far as the comment about the lack of morale within the SPD due to lack of pay raises and lack of manpower- I can agree that the crime situation in Salisbury is not helped at all by being understaffed with officers, but the pay raise situation? I don't think I want anyone being an officer of the law who is not going to do their job to the utmost of their ability unless they get more money. You should get into law enforcement because you want to better the community, or you have a passion for the profession! I don't want to be protected by individuals who are in this line of work just for the paycheck because that clearly shows they do not have the city's best interests at heart!
