Who Is Running the City of Salisbury?

Is it the Tilghman Times?  Police Chief Allan Webster?  City Administrator John Pick?  I don’t know, but unfortunately it doesn’t appear to be our friend Jim Ireton – the man elected to the job.

We now have a Barrie Tilghman appointee waging a war in the newspaper against the mayor and two other elected officials.  Unfortunately for Webster, he may be sacrificing other Tilghman appointees in a vicious attempt to protect his own job.

Will he be successful?  Only time and Jim Ireton will tell.  One thing is certain.  If Ireton fails to act on this matter soon, there will be no question as to who ISN”T running Salisbury.

GREAT article GA. Webster is pushing the buttons of the taxpayers because he knows he's done. What better way to go out than to put up a big fight. It's my understanding that Webster has already asked the Mayor to pay for his legal fees, (ONCE AGAIN) on this matter and quite frankly if the Council agrees to do this AGAIN, as the former Mayor pushed for in his case against Rachel Polk, the Council agreed to pay his legal fees and gain an apology from the former Council with exception of Rachel Polk AND Von Siggers. They refused to participate with any of it as it was clear they had done absolutely nothing wrong.

Webster can't afford another lawsuit, period. Call his bluff and throw him out. Mayor Ireton needs to take a stand and stop pussyfooting around with this guy. He's bullied Jim even before he was elected, challenging him on crime stats and demanding he come into his Office so he could better explain things to Jim.

The funny part is, Jim is his Boss, not the other way around. Now Jim has to prove who's Boss.

Its time that our new mayor stand up and show the taxpayers who is in charge. I realize that alot of things may be happening behind the scenes but Mayor Ireton needs to publicly put the pressure on Webster. True leaders have to make tough decisions something neither Ireton or Pollitt have been able to do so far.

GA:

Don't look now, but when school starts up in a few weeks, Ireton becomes a part-time mayor once again. What a disappointment he is.

Who is running the City of Salisbury? It certainly isn't Ireton, as it should be. Why, Jim, are you letting Chiefy and the Tilghman Times run the show here, come on show us what you're made of.

FYI to some commenters -

This, and the accompanying post, isn't meant as an attack of Jim Ireton. I accept the fact that Salisbury didn't get into the situation it's in overnight and Jim Ireton can't fix it overnight.

That said, Webster has drawn the line in the sand. NOW is the time to act.

It would be interesting if Webster really does ask the city to foot the bill for his legal fees. I can't imagine Ireton signing such a resolution and I can't imagine Campbell and Cohen supporting it. Therefore, Webster better hit the Yellow Pages hard. Of course, he might have a bit of trouble getting some ambulance chaser to handle a dismissal case on behalf of disgraced police chief who has seem Salisbury become one of the most dangerous cities in America under his watchful eye.

As a county resident I feel for the people of Salisbury. We have Mike Lewis running the show. My friends in the city are forced to depend on Allan Webster.

Maybe I'm missing something here, hasn't Webster asked for more money for officers and has been turned down more than once. How can we expect him to fight crime when it is commonly known that more officers are needed. If there indeed has been an increase in crime, it had nothing to do with Webster, and more to do with the economy (ask any officer, I have)

Anon 1050 -

You raise an interesting point. However, ask yourself why Webster is waging such a public campaign against the mayor and two council members yet restricted his "campaign" for more and better paid officers to a few mumbles at city council work sessions.

The answer is simple. Webster cares about himself a whole lot more than he cares about his officers or the public he is charged to protect and to serve.

GA, while I do not agree with you, I do appreciate your gift for words (in this day and time, we can easily see this lacking). I feel like I can have an educated debate with you without all the name calling and ignorance that is prevalent these days. Thank you and looking forward to good “educated” debate in the future.

Webster asked for more money when he already knew he wasn't going to get it for the officers. He could care less about any of the staff at SPD because he is getting paid. And for what? Doing nothing except waging a war against Campbell and Cohen, neveing showing up for work on time, nevering working a full day on Friday, going golfing on duty hours, stalks Albero and basically walks/drives around aimlessly each and every day.

SPD, the City, citizens deserve better. Jim, we are watching and waiting.

Golfing on duty hours. Well, well, why hasn't the persons who know this not captured it on their cell phone for the world to see. You all did that to poor old napping Comegys?
