Adventist Healthcare cuts 90 jobs at Eastern Shore mental health facility

Gaithersburg-based Adventist HealthCare, the nonprofit that runs Washington Adventist Hospital and Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, is laying off 90 workers at its behavioral health location on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

The Adventist Behavioral & Wellness Services in Cambridge is making the cuts by Nov. 30 as it closes and temporarily delicenses its 59 residential treatment center beds and 15 acute care beds, Executive Director Ismael Gama said.

The cuts come as the health system looks to relocate its 170-bed Takoma Park hospital in Montgomery County — with a plan to leave a 39-bed psychiatric unit at the Takoma Park campus. Adventist received state approval in December to build a new $331 million hospital in White Oak.
