‘We have your daughter’: A virtual kidnapping and a mother’s five hours of hell

Wendy Mueller was standing at the copper sink in her gorgeous, historic Leesburg, Va., home last Wednesday afternoon when the knife she was holding slipped and cut her thumb.

Then the phone rang.

It wasn’t a number she recognized, but distracted by the bleeding thumb, she answered it. Mom always answers the phone.

She heard screaming. It sounded exactly like her 23-year-old daughter’s voice, begging for help.

Then an unfamiliar voice announced, “We have your daughter.”

How naive of her. She deserves to lose her money. Unfamiliar number and unfamiliar name on the phone. Duh, I guess that she never gets scam calls...NOT! Hang up and immediately call her daughter at school on her cell phone. I can't believe how many affluent people with money are so stupid. If it was a real kidnapping, the caller would call back. After all, all they want is money.
