State Representative calls girl, who has been escorted by police to school, 'an evil little thing'
CRANSTON, R.I. — She is 16, the daughter of a firefighter and a nurse, a self-proclaimed nerd who loves Harry Potter and Facebook. But Jessica Ahlquist is also an outspoken atheist who has incensed this heavily Roman Catholic city with a successful lawsuit to get a prayer removed from the wall of her high school auditorium, where it has hung for 49 years.
A federal judge ruled this month that the prayer’s presence at Cranston High School West was unconstitutional, concluding that it violated the principle of government neutrality in religion.

Brat. How dare she try to censor what people can read or see! If she is offended by a prayer that has been posted for 49 years she will never make it in the real world. We are raising a generation of whining losers.
I just read this on the NYT. Maybe I don't understand b/c I am not an atheist, but how did it make her feel like she didn't belong? It was there long before she was born. It wasn't directed at her. I just don't understand why people are so frickin picky that they have to go after everything that isn't to their liking. Though, as a Christian, I do not agree with the threats she received either. I don't agree with her, and I don't understand why she had to take such measures, but that is her right. She should not have to endure being escorted to school.

2;14 Don't try and twist the gay issue. Gays can develop their own institution for marriage instead of forcing everyone else to change theirs but they don't because the left wing agenda is about destroying the things that hold people together and once they do that they will have no other choice but to rely on big government for all their needs.

I know that it's unpopular... but so was integration (ref civil rights).
Being up for 49 years is IRRELEVANT. It could have been up for 1000 years... the time it was ignored as being Unconstitutional has no bearing on it's status.
Those who oppose this decision... at least have the common decency and courtesy to be honest with us, and yourselves... and admit that you don't care about the Constitution or other peoples liberties... and admit you want your own theocracy to rule everything.
At least that would be honest.

Actually conspiracy wacko, the student would be removing himself from whatever he finds offensive. Not some SUV with tinted windows and guys wearing suits dragging him away. You watch too much t.v.
But I guess you are used to having the elite few dictating to the majority.

ahhh.. there you go. Folks! I present to you the humble, kind, gentle Christians, who prefer to use ad hominem attacks than articulate coherent points... just look above!
When you articulate an idea, you need to communicate effectively. "Remove the Student" has a decidedly different meaning than "if you are offended by it, go somewhere else".
So, to address your horribly worded statement... the student has no choice in going elsewhere.. as it is compulsory to go to that school, law dictates that she attend school... so your premise is flawed.
To further the point, the prayer also clearly violates the establishment clause, and the courts upheld this unlawful promotion of a religious viewpoint (one of the reasons people came to this country was to get away from state sponsored religion, so they could worship as they saw fit... history much?)
Lastly, when it comes to the Constitution, liberty, and freedom... the MAJORITY opinion means absolutely squat. The REASON there is a bill of rights is so that these rights can not be squashed by a government entity, or a majority acting in the disinterest of liberty and freedom.
Now, can we stay on point folks and present some real substance... or is this gonna digress into name calling again?
