ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 16, 2010) – Governor Martin O’Malley issued this statement today following Friday’s Order from the Public Service Commission approving BGE’s Smart Grid Initiative and this morning’s announcement by the company to proceed with implementation:
“I want to congratulate BGE for their decision to move forward with implementation of its smart grid initiative and accept the $200 million in federal investment it has been awarded to offset the initiative’s cost to ratepayers. The project promises to improve the reliability and customer service offered by BGE, further our ability to meet the State’s aggressive EmPOWER Maryland goals, and potentially deliver savings to customers.”
“The Public Service Commission appropriately balanced these promised benefits with the known risks inherent in an initiative of this magnitude by delaying recovery of the costs of the project until the benefits are realized.”

Smart grid?
What they don't tell you is that the technology has the ability to monitor your electricity use in real time and remotely shut you down, or your air conditioner, or you plasma tv.
In the future, appliances like refrigerators will communicate with the grid and remotely they can adjust the temp up and down in the name of controlling demand.
People should read the book 1984 again to remind them of what the government is slowely moving us toward!
It's time for everyone to get their own generators and outsmart the smart grid. Get one with a big diesel engine that spews out tons of sulphur and CO2. This is nothing more thatn the government taking over another everyday aspect of our existance.
