We Don't Need No Stinkin Snow Emergency Route, Right?

If you happen to travel down South Blvd, especially in the evening, be very careful. You see, the selfish people that can't seem to understand and or read the sign above stating Snow Emergency Route don't have a clue what that means. Not only are the shoulders of the road gone from packed snow, these people are parking in the street making it extremely difficult to get by. God Forbid you have to slam on your brakes to come to a stop on the ICE.

Then there are those other fools who not only park in the street, they park in front of a fire hydrant, because their property will never catch on fire, nor will their neighbors, right?

Come on people, use some common sense and start following the law. Might I add, I strongly urge the Salisbury Police department to start ticketing these people and slap them with the hefty fines they deserve.

What do all of you think, am I going overboard on this?

I agree 100%!

i also agree! these people need to get the shovels out like the rest of us!

Me too! Dealing with all the snow and ice is bad enough without these idiots compounding the issues.

I disagree with you, I thought the snow emergency route was only ticketable in a state of emergency, but the guy in front of the fire hydrant, def. ticket him

Do they have driveways and/or yards to park in??, then yes, I agree with you. Get out there and shovel your &$%@ driveway like the rest of us have to do and you'll have somewhere to park. Since South Blvd is a snow emergency route they should ticket and tow every one of them, then make them pay for towing and storage and I bet they'd learn then that you don't park your car on the street along a snow emergency route.

I totally agree. These are probably the same people who park in FIRE LANES, which by the way is also ILLEGAL!

There is a small dark blue ford with tag number 3BS J67 Maryland
parked in the south bound lane of RT.349 in Nanticoke. The driver side is in the state road , we have called the state police but they have yet to respond 5 days ago. I have seen almost 12 near missed headon collisions. Just a matter of time. There drive is clear enough, but they still park on the road!

Oh, have you also driven down Beaglin Park drive and notice the mostly BURIED fire hydrants?!!!! i sure as hell hope they are not needed any time soon!!!! something needs to be done about this ASAP!!

Anonymous said...

wasn't an emergency called and nobody was allowed to drivr, so those streets could be cleared? guess they forgot.

I thought you could only not park on snow emergency routes when the emergency plan was in effect. I agree that its inconsiderate and they should think about parking off the street but ticketing and towing is illegal if it's not during the emergency time. The person in front of the fire hydrant should be ticketed but other than that, it's just one of those things.

I live in the area of North salisbury School and the roads are awful. What happens tomorrow when school re-opens and the kids have to walk in these streets because the sidewalks aren't cleared. It's about time the city starts fining these lazy a__es that don't shovel. What's it going to take for the city to do something before one of the school children get hit?

Anonymous said...

They do not enforce any of these laws!

Anonymous said...

I agree with 10:33
One of my main concerns is for the children who have to walk to school and cross major roads.
Many of them may have no choice but to walk on the roads. What if a child were to slip and fall? How long would that child be down if they broke a bone before someone discovered them?

I've got one neighbor on my street that never dug out his drive and decided to park on the street. (actually the middle of the street being he is about 8 ft from mailbox) I had to leave a note for him to move as several people could not get larger vehicles past and also caused the plows not to come down the street. Inconsiderate to say the least.

The people that park along that stretch of South are inconsiderate 12 months a year, re: parking. There is a pickup truck that has been parking about a foot off of the double yellow. And the police must drive right by the vehicle. About 200 ft closer to riverside, the snow is much wider (presumably because the idiots weren't parked there when the plows came through), yet they persist to block the road. Unreal.

Anonymous said...

10:33 How can you shovel when the plows pile the sidewalks with 6' of snow?

Anonymous said...

I agree start fining those who park on the emergency snow routes. I received a citation to remove a washer/dryer that I was trying to sell from the side of my property. I had to either give them away, throw them away or face a fine. People who don't clear their sidewalks should also be fined; however, there are so many of them that I guess it is impossible to enforce.

Anonymous said...

I agree they need to shovel the sidewalks in front of their homes. But what happens when they do & the city comes by & plows the snow back on the sidewalk. OH,that's right they haven't plowed, how silly of me.

Also the college students that park on E College Ave. It says NO Parking Snow Route and there are still cars there.

well we all know "certain" folks are allergic to work

Its not just that this is an emergency route, these people are not even parked on the shoulder they are right in the street. That is not legal emergency or not. They park just like they drive around here. Only thing worse, is the fatties with handicap tags that seem to be able to haul their behinds in and out of monster trucks but cant walk 50 yards across a parking lot

Anonymous said...

There was a state of emergency? Can you read. The cars are plowed in so the stae of emergency was in place sometime during that period. If you don't want to ticket them for that then get them for not clearing the sidewalks as dictacted by the city.

Chimera said...

Ticket them!Being lazy and inconsiderate is no excuse.I have lost count of how many times a day I see people parking in spots marked for handicapped people where I work. They are oblivious to anyones needs but their own.I would love the satisfaction of seeing them stuck with a huge ticket.

This problem is all over Salisbury. The SPD and Government Agencys never do anything about it. They are supposed to be towed and fined at the owners expense. But then again you have parking in the street and prohibiting the flow of traffic even in good weather and never ticketed and they have driveways to pull in. Onley Rd is a good example of that. What are they going to do when that school opens?

Anonymous said...

There is very little need to 'slam on your breaks.' If the road is as bad as you posit, you should be driving slowly and cautiously enough to avoid the need to slam on the breaks. Plus, with today's anti-lock brakes, there's no skidding when you break. We all need to understand that these conditions do mean longer braking times, so driving on icy roads = SLOW DOWN.

Let's take some INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY for our own driving and quit blaming the city.

Anonymous said...

That is a fire and ambulance route, hence the signs. Tow them away!

Anonymous said...

Regardless of whether or not there is a sign posted, people should try to remove their vehicles from the roadway to make clearing roads easier. Lots of people are parking in their driveways leaving the front 3 feet of their cars in the street so they wont get snow in their driveways. All of these things make for slowed progress when plowing, and I am not just talking about the city. As for the hydrants being covered, I suggest you get a shovel and uncover them as was suggested by the fire department. Consider it a "civic duty". The gov't agencies cant be all things to all people. Sometimes you need to take responsibliity for yourself.

Anonymous said...

blutojthetotmom, your plan may work.

Now how do you think we should resolve a bigger problem which is the NON handicap folks that have the tags hanging from their rearview mirrows abusing the system and parking in the handicap spots just because they're too damn lazy to walk from the lot where the rest of us park.

Anonymous said...

South Blvd? Unless the signs are multi-lingual in that area, I think I know why nobody heeds them.
TOW the vehicles-- make them pay to get them back.
They'd never pay a ticket.

Anonymous said...

BS I have anti lock brakes on my vehicle and even going slow you can still SLIDE on this ice. Even going slow you can still have something pull out in front of you and you do need to hit the brakes.

Anonymous said...

Stimulate the tow companies. Tow those cars that are parked illegally.

Anonymous said...

We are constantly hearing the cities, counties and states have no money. Well, this is a great opportunity to raise revenue and at the same time take care of some problems.
Why aren't they doing it? Because they have a nice city/county/state job and they don't HAVE to work, all they have to do is show up to get their paycheck AND their pensions!
Must be nice!

Anonymous said...

Jeremy, we were under a State of Emergency, twice!

Anonymous said...

Ticket them and then tow their vehicles!

Anonymous said...

It is the same on Priscilla and Hammond, people park in the street with no regard to traffic. There are no consequences.

Anonymous said...

thier not getn fined cuz the streets arent cleared enuf for the police to get around to them probably you know what i mean man.

Anonymous said...

I haven't read all these comments, but this road is also near my home, yes thess homes have parking for at least 2 vehicles, yes their were cars parked along this route, yes some of cars were still there, not moved, a day or two have each storm, the sun cleared their car, but noooooo tire tracks as to them being moved, yes they should have recieved tickets and or towed at their expense. This is why city streets do not get cleared. Some of the cars i have seen parked on the street cost more then my gross annual salary, why they would park them on the street is beyond any common sence

A nonplus...South blvd is NOT a 4 lane street, but drivers through seem to think it is. People have passed me on the right while I'm making a right turn into my driveway.
They drive too fast in all weather trying to make the lights. The apt dwellers really have no where else to park. The area between the 4 bldgs. should be used for parking at least during a snow emergency. If you're gonna ticket me for not shoveling, ticket them for not moving. At one point, there wasn't enough room for two vehicles going in opposite directions to pass because of the snow & parked cars.
