Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Press Release 10-17-13

Sheriff Impersonator ChargedMr. Michael Sponseller, 43 of Girdletree Md. has been charged with impersonating a police officer.

Mr. Sponseller had placed an ad on Craig’s list in an attempt to sell dogs. Mr. Sponseller engaged in an argument with a subject over the internet E Mail in regards to the legality of selling dogs on Craig’s list. Mr. Sponseller allegedly identified himself as Sheriff Reggie Mason and threatened to arrest the subject for harassing him about the ad on Craig’s list. Detectives obtained the E mail exchanges Mr. Sponsellerexchanged with the subject that showed Mr. Sponseller identifying himself as Worcester County Sheriff Reggie Mason. Mr. Sponseller was charged as impersonating a police officer and is awaiting trial.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the community that Sheriff Mason does not utilize Craig’s list to sell Animals or other items and has not engaged in Email Exchanges with anyone over Craig’s list. Michael Sponseller
