Pictures I Took Today IN Wicomico County

Again, this is Rockawalkin Road and Spring Hill Road. Send in your pictures if you have them Folks. These are NOT conditions I believe are safe enough to ask our children to attend school.

Mind you, I understand the frustration of some commenters saying they, (the children) have been off long enough. However, safety should be priority #1 here and I truly believe after traveling down many different roads in Wicomico County today that is just isn't safe, period.

Our Grandson goes to Delmar Elementary, yet he lives in Delaware. I will personally drive him to school tomorrow and pick him up. I also believe ALL buses should NOT be on the roads and IF parents choose to deliver their child to school, that's one thing. If they cannot, the students should be excused until the County gets this mess under control. Just my opinion but I look forward to reading yours.

Was the county off today , due to the holiday ??

I agree 100% Joe. I live in Wicomico County and am a school bus contractor....I am very nervous about tomorrow. I am worried about all 4 of my drivers. It concerns me that Wicomico county has closed schools for the day on the roads being in much better shape than they are now.

I agree with you. Wicomico should take lessons from Worcester County. As always their roads are in great condition while many of the ones in Wicomico have yet to be touched!

Yes, Wicomico County was off today for the holiday. We tried contacting them first hand to clear Foskey Lane...no answer.

You are actualy on to something....let school be open BUT don't run the buses....I teach and am anxious to get back but don't hold the bus drivers accountable for transporting the 74% of our students who do use this form of transportation - it's just not worth the risk. It also greatly concerns me for all of our walkers....city streets are horrendous...not to mention sidewalks (or lack of).

Morris rd in Pittsville from the Mt Hermon side still has a foot of ice on it. An oil truck got stuck on it today. Imagine a bus full of kids. Not very smart of the board of ed.

If everyone that gets on this site put a shovel in their hand , they would not have anything to BIOTCH ABOUT !!!!!

I agree.. However they are some parents out there who dont give a crap about anything but getting rid of their children and sending them back to school.. so they won't even think twice before scooting them out to the bus tomorrow. (they have to have some free time to go use their food stamps) Maybe by morning Wic. county will rethink their decision and close.

TDP you are on here just as much as anyone else putting your one cent in on the comments and another cent or two in crying and whining the rest of the time so put a shovel in your own hands.

8:31 - I'm a teacher and no, I haven't been shoveling for my students but for some who I know are unable to get out and about, I have delivered a loaf of bread, dozen eggs, and half gallon of milk to their homes (city of Salisbury residents with iced-over streets). I have done this for approximately nine families over the past week and a half.

Your suggestion is well taken but if officials in the city of Salisbury would enforce the code stating that homeowners clear their walks...and encourage the city plows to do their job - this wouldn't be an issue.

You may want to voice your suggestion to Teacher Mayor Ireton! The city and county plows didn't run last week when we had our "City of Emergency" (Thursday)...only state plows that day. HHHeellllooooo - those are the folks that should have been out.

My husband is an ambulance driver and they have had a horrendous time getting to patients.

My parents were stuck in a 2 hour backup on the bypass in Salisbury last night due to accidents that happened because of a huge patch of black ice. It seems no one has reported on it. Be careful out there!!

I live in Wicomico Cty and my son will not be going to school tomorrow on a bus. Morris Leonard Rd has 2 spots that no one is able to get through without getting stuck and Holt Rd the 1 end there is no road because of the open field a feed truck could not even get through. I feel it is not safe for any child not just my own to be on any school bus period.

TDP, don't get into a pissing match with a skunk.

Unfortunately we have visitors like JR & JT who live day to day trying to stir the pot here and get our visitors upset at any cost.

I have spent the majority of today rejecting so many of their comments it isn't funny. Their obsession with me/us is so mentla, I truly have never seen other human beings so disturnbed in my entire lifetime.

You would think they would move on and do their own thing but to spend their days attacking you, me or anyone who doesn't agree with their Barrie Tilghman style agenda clearly proves how sick they are.

So please, do not respond to their comments but know I happen to know who they are.

Thanks Joe for keeping me in check! I just got wrapped up in the moment !!

I live on Rewastico Road near Hebron. The road is so covered with ice that you have to get a running start out of the driveway to get out on the road. I have two grandchildren that also live here and cannot believe they would even think of sending school buses down the roads in these conditions. I also pass Rockawalkin Road twice a day going to work and it's still closed. What are they thinking?

Hmmm Rick Pollitt didn't call a state of emergency because he was afraid of lawsuits. BOE Friedrickson calls for schools to open when not all county roads are passable. Guess he's not afraid of lawsuits. Maybe he should talk to Rick Pollitt, he'll set him straight on lawsuits.

This snow removal is going to be a major item in their plea to remove the cap. REMEMBER we have money to piss in the wind for land scams but not enough for our needs. REMEMBER this on November 2nd.

you should have seen all the county trucks clearing the Civic Center old mall lot the other day. Those trucks could have been clearing county roads instead.

Maybe our county would have more $ if Ray Lewis and company and the county landfill employees would not have stolen it! I say, send ASAP pumping and his construction co and any other staff of his or county employees a bill for some of the plowing/salting!

I am curious to know what part of town or street Mr. Fredericksen lives on??? Obviously not in the country! Or, maybe he has not ventured out of his neighborhood to actually see the conditions of the roads. Perhaps he should consult w/the Maryland State Police to get an opinion on if the county rds are safe! If delivery trucks, ambulances and 4-wheel drive vehicles are having difficulty, then how the hell does he think the school bus drivers will make it through safely w/a bunch of screaming kids on the bus in the background while trying to concentrate on what is ahead?? I shudder to think what the bus drivers will do when they come up on a big patch of ice w/kids standing on the side of the rd or trying to make a turn. Also what are they to do on the roads that are not passable or only have one lane or a solid sheet of ice?
