Man Charged With Operating On His Own Dog

14-year-old Lab mix needed second surgery after it acquired an infection

BARRINGTON, R.I.
- A Rhode Island man who says he couldn't afford medical care for his dog has been charged with illegally operating on the pet.

Alan MacQuattie recently removed a cyst from the leg of his 14-year-old Labrador mix. The dog was operated on again by professionals to deal with an infection from the first surgery.

E.J. Finocchio, a veterinarian and president of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, calls the surgery a "heinous crime."

A heinous crime??!

No, kidnapping and murdering a kid is a heinous crime. Stealing billions from trusting people is a heinous crime. Genocide is a heinous crime.

Taking a cyst out of your old dog because you can't afford the $150 to $400 for a vet to do it isn't a heinous crime, it's a sad comment on how hard life is for some.
