U.S. Combat Rifle Scopes To No Longer Bear Scripture References

Rifle scopes bearing references to the New Testament no longer will be issued to American troops, and scopes already in service will have the references removed.

Military optics manufacturer Trijicon Inc., of Wixom, Mich., apparently concerned that a Pentagon review of the situation could lead to a loss or interruption of its multi-million dollar contract for the Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight, said it is ending the practice begun by the company’s founder more than 20 years ago.

Trijicon “has offered to voluntarily stop putting references to scripture on all products manufactured for the U.S. military – and will provide, free of charge, 100 modification kits to the Pentagon to enable the removal of the references that are already on products that are currently deployed...

Is this freedom of or freedom from religion?

"...And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy." And the Lord did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats and large chu... [At this point, the friar is urged by Brother Maynard to "skip a bit, brother"]... And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceedest on to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." Amen.

Since we are arming our muslim allies with these scopes, it's quite inappropriate to have these inscriptions. I can just imagine the uproar if soldiers were carrying inscriptions from the koran. Pat Robertson would have been all over it!

PC and living in fear is no way to go.

Live in love, state your principles and stand up for them.

Trijicon should lose their contract for this move alone!

We don't need wet pants pu$$ies making our military scopes. There are plenty of other manufacturers.

Our troops need all the prayer and scripture they can get when they are faced with pulling that trigger. Leave the scripture on!

3:10pm you sound like the wet pants pu$$y here. Trijicon is a fine piece and they should not have to remove anything from their line just because a verse that unless you are told is there would not even be noticed! I guess the net thing you wet pants pu$$y will want is for the marksman shooting this weapon to apologize before he shoots one of these no good terrorist just trying to keep you safe and free!

There is no such thing as muslim allies 2:54. They all believe in the koran and that means they want to kill us (the infidels). We shouldn't be giving weapons to our enemies under any circumstances, this sounds like some idiotic Obama decision.

2:54, if we are giving these weapons to the muslims, they should use them and not complain. If they don't like them, give them back and shut up. They are not our friends, muslims are our enemies.

You stupid bible-thumping idiots...when OUR Gen. Petraeus is alarmed because of the HARM it can put our soldiers in, you STILL have to go off?

Petraeus is a HELL of lot smarter than any of you. He has spent a lot more time being with and understanding Muslims in their own land.

So time to shut up.

Before you call me an atheist, heathen or traitor, I've been Christian from birth. Do you think Jesus, our Lord and Savior, the Prince of Peace, wants references on guns?

Get real.

I support our troops and our wise General, master of the Surge.

6:48 I've spent more time in Country than that idiot and know these terrorists a hell of alot more than YOU DO! Until you can say that, KMA

>>Petraeus is alarmed because of the HARM it can put our soldiers in<<

That's an obtuse thought process.

Let me get this straight, a bunch of radical Muslims want to kill you, me, and especially our soldiers who are in there land. And, believe me, they want to do it really bad.

Now, you say when they learn there are some engravings like "JN316" on a rifle, that our soldiers are now in danger of harm?

Wow, what buffoon logic that is! How can these towel head radicals want to do any more harm than they tried to do BEFORE they knew of these markings? Did they know about the markings on 9/11 when they killed 3,000 of our people on our soil?

When they point a gun at your head, I'll bet if you just say "Hey, I don't have any of those New Testament inscriptions" that they will say "OK, we'll leave you alone" then go and kill someone else instead.

Ridiculously incongruous.

amen 6:48.

Half of the dumb@$$ commenters here are barely worth rebutting but hey, it's a snow day.

5:45, wake up, we've been arming muslims for decades. And we have been providing weapons and training to Afghan. and Iraqi soldiers. We sell plenty of weapons to other muslim countries. Talk about literacy test for voters (see later post), if 5:45 is an example of the conservative base then I think you guys would lose atleast half of your votes.

Missing the point here y'all. Scripture scrawled on a weapon designed only to kill other human beings is just as ridiculous as the enemy fighting a "jihad" for their God. Religion is at the root of almost all the major wars in history. So thumpers, rationalize and justify as you will, just don't forget to ask yourselves, "WWJK--Who Would Jesus Kill?"

Well, it's kind of hard to convince the Middle East that we're not involved in a holy war when we've got Christian Scripture engraved on our weapons. Probably best to stop doing that.
