I received a call the other day asking me to drive by the new, (still closed) Collector Road on the west side of Salisbury. I was told they had plowed this road, yet its not open.
With all of the plowing that needs to be done throughout the City and County, one has to wonder why they'd waste taxpayer money to plow a road that isn't even in use. You tax dollars hard at work.

There is no leadership in the local government , matter of fact there is none in the federal government. It's a culture thing!
Was it plowed or did the snow just melt off, due to the heat from the reflectivity of the bituminous asphalt.
No it was being plowed on friday morning when i seen a county truck doing it. I thought to myself why in the heck would they plow it and its been on my mind every since as well...
Unbelievable! What a waste of tax dollars! This leadership needs to GO!
Looks like it melted.
i'm thinkin that it probably melted. my yard is mostly covered in shade & the snow on my horseshoe driveway has melted & we didn't plow or shovel at all.
Without debating simply put Snow and Ice are Not Good for asphalt.
They can not open the road until the guard rails are installed. They plowed the road so the crews could start installing them.
They have been working on them most of the week.
It was plowed to allow workers to get in and install guardrails and concrete barriers. It was plowed cleaner than Brick Kiln Road where they only plow up to the stone yard then leave the rest with an inch or so of snow from the stone yard down to Rockawalkin Ridge Road. I emailed Rick Pollitt, and some of the council members. Stevie Prettyman and Rick were the only ones to reply. Sheree Sample Hughes NEVER answers email when questions like this are asked.
Bang head here....
I would think there were enough "other" projects for crews to be working on besides this road in these weather conditions.
I still say it was a waste of tax dollars and they all need to GO!
Did Politt also plow the
old mall parking lot?
I can see the snow banks in the pic that only a plow could create.
HEY- Maybe plowing (not yet open) closed roads is payed for with stimulus money?
You know Rick, because its not REAL money...!!!
Anon 9:54 AM,
Snow and Ice are Not Good for asphalt? Ok...so what's going to do more damage, snow and ice or a steel plow blade?! Plows tear the shit out of roads and the County decided that they want to get a head start are tearing up the Westside Collector!
Anon 10:03 AM and Donna,
Last time I checked, guard rails were place on the sides of road, not in the road! Next thought for you, being that they use the same trucks to plow roads as they would to install guard rails, don't you think that they would have been able navigate the road without plowing while installing the guard rails?
You know what I honestly think? I think that it is a way for the Roads Division to look busy so that they don't get laid off! Their philosphy is that if they destroy the roads with the plows then they will be need later to repair them!

You don't know crap. It is a private contractor installing the traffic barrier, not the county. Secondly, the roads division doesn't have to try to look busy, there is plenty of work to do. Thirdly, yes smarty, guardrail is installed on the side of the road, but how are they supposed to get down to the site, fly? If you will notice, roads that don't receive much traffic clear much better because the snow hasn't been packed into ice, so think twice about taking unecessary joy rides while it is snowing.

This one is real simple Joe.
The more money they waste, The more money they have to take from us. These Government's; town, county, state, and fed's, just want to take more and more. They shouldn't even call it a tax anymore. It's a TAKE. Plain & Simple.
Tom Sawyer
they plow so seldom, practice is required...

are you as dumb as you make yourself to be? You comments really prove you should not be allow to breed. Another dumba$$ in our country will not help us at all!
2:11 is correct. Plus, bad move to get behind on a contract. If county doesn't do its end of the bargain, the contractor (who don't want to get behind and have it screw up other work) could sue for breach.
No harm people asking. But stop accusing till you get an answer. There's plenty of real stuff to complain about.
