STAND UP Against Rick Pollitt’s Multi-Million Dollar Parking Lot

Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt The Wicomico County Council meets Tuesday morning.  On the agenda is a “public hearing” on the proposed $300,000 per acre Rick Pollitt Car Park.  Rather than schedule a public hearing in the evening, as they do with all other matters that are even mildly controversial, the council is trying to sweep this one under the rug.

Don’t fall for it!  Show up at 10AM Tuesday morning and demand that the county council spend your tax dollars in a wise manner!

This is another incredible boondoogle.

Pollitt now wants to buy another 10 acres. Why didn't he negotiate for that to begin with or when it dawned on him. That land is not worth $100,000 per acre, and never has been since the Center at Salisbury opened - the big stores left and they let the building run down until it had to be condemned, then they tore it down.

"Pollitt argues that only those of us who actually paid an ag transfer tax have any skin in this game"

I guess Pollitt also believes that only property owners should be allowed to vote, and so forth.

Once again, Joe Holloway has pointed out that Pollitt is proposing to pay an absurd price for property because it is somebody else's tax money.

This deal should be put into one of their $400 trash cans.

The state will distribute the earmarked $$ somewhere. But get the price down where it could be approved so there will be something left for other open space projects in the county.

I will be there on the front row.

Insane. No matter where this money is coming from, it is still our tax money...just like the "grant" for the fireboat that will sit in the marina until it sinks. Wake up people! This is our tax money.

Ok folks. If the Civic Center is dependent on more parking spaces to hold sold-out shows let's think of how this can be resolved instead of "throwing mud around."

Sir:

About 6 to 8 years ago they tried to sell the mall at an auction. The minimum price for the open land on Beaglin Park Drive (the most valuable part) was 1,500,000, but there were no bids. That part is at least 20 acres, so the per acre amount was much less than $100,000 per acre.

Pollitt is nuts to pay $300,000 for land than is worth much less than that regardless of how he got the money or who paid it as taxes.

WRONG - it's now Pollitt's money to spend as the County Council lets him do. If they approve this rotten deal they should all be thrown out at the next election.

Ok. Let me understand this. We are going to pay many more times per acre what the land is worth so we can have surplus parking for the 2-3 events that are sold out that could probably be schedule more appropriately anyway? RATHER THAN have more frequent events that fill most of the seats and there is plenty of parking for? Sold out events? Are you kidding me? The WYCC doesn't even have graduations there anymore. Who wants to support this loser?

As I am just a dumb ass mechanic, I have a question. If every county in Maryland pays too much for land that no one else wants, and every town in Maryland buys a fireboat to protect less than 1 mile of waterfront property, then whose money is it? Rick? Hello....Rick?

The whole "open space" gimmick is a farce that is a piss poor excuse for bureaucracy. Nothing but a scam to take advantage of the tax payers so they are owned by the government.

I see you all want to complain about everything and you don't have a solution for anything. What gives?

Only in Maryland would a parking lot be considered "open space"!

11:19pm You can thank Norm Conway for getting that through last year in Annapolis for Wicomico County.
