Face To Face, Obama Urges GOP To Cooperate

Republicans question president, push back on criticism of 'party of no'

BALTIMORE - In a remarkably frank encounter, President Barack Obama chastised Republican lawmakers on Friday for opposing him on taxes, health care and economic stimulus, while they accused him of ignoring their ideas and driving up the national debt.

The president and GOP House members took turns questioning and sometimes lecturing each other face to face for more than hour at the Republican gathering.

Obama warned that their sharp criticisms of him over the past year make it almost politically impossible for them to agree with him even if an accord would help the American people. They said he was misleading the American people in saying they had offered no serious alternatives to his proposals.

A long overdue civil discussion. No name calling, no hyperbole, no fear mongering, no talking points. Now they need to get to work...together.

Screw that he needs to scrap cap n trade and health care before any talks should begin !

Let's see.. it was the democrat who was doing the lecturing about working together.
Now, as I remember, wasn't it the democrats who locked the republicans out of all the discussions and REFUSED to talk with them or even consider their proposals?
But now that their bullet-proof majority in the senate is gone, we get a down-the-nose lecture about needing to work together.
To quote a well-known blogger..
BITE ME!

By his own record, everything he says is a lie. Therefore, he really doesn't want to work with the GOP.

Now that he has lost his fillibuster proof majority he wants to work together. When the shoe was on the other foot he shut everyone else out. The GOP is absolutely correct in opposing everything this incompetent idiot wants to do. They shouldn't make deals with the devil.

Don't listen to his words watch his actions !

Hmmm...and I thought politicians worked for the people. I guess the republicans don't give a damn!

good to see you Republican Conservatives living up to what we all know you are: obstructionists. You have no interest in progress or fixing problems, you just want your party to have power, no matter what. This President went to talk to the Republicans to work out their issues, and, like he predicted, you don't want to work with him, no matter what.

You are the problem with America and why problems can't be fixed. You need to learn how to work with the other side before we're all screwed.
