Among all the unthinkable crimes going on here locally on Delmarva, we are all WELL AWARE that they're are still locals out there willing to go the extra mile to make a difference in our community. . . Miss Sarah "Haleybug" Foxwell comes to mind right away.
My best friend, Sally, has been battling brain cancer for over 1 1/2 years now. She has been through 3 brain surgeries so far and still has a very long road ahead of her. Her last surgery (just weeks ago) found a different brain cancer and is even more progressive than the other. My heart breaks for her everyday for there is no cure for her condition. Her cancer location in her brain affected her entire right side. She went from working 3 jobs to nothing in the blink of an eye. She has a housefull with husband, 3 children, 1 stepchild and 3 cats. Her husband cannot keep up with the bills. They struggle from day to day with everyday bills.
Anyway...
I was talking to Sally Monday night. She had said that her heat has been broken all winter and now that it's gotten extremely cold out, the portable ceramic heaters they have been using is not keeping the house warm. They didn't know anyone (friends) that had any expertise in HVAC, so they just went without heat since they have no money to call a repairman for repairs. My heart broke for her and the family.
So yesterday, Sally calls me practically in tears. . . asking me if I had sent over someone to fix the heat. I looked at my husband with tears in my eyes, knowing he had once again, helped out my best friend. My hubby had called our good friend, Jeff Bradford with OC Comfort Services yesterday morning and told him about the situation. Within hours, he was knocking on their door to look at their heat (or lack thereof). Not only did Jeff come over within hours, he also had diagnosed the problem, called his Rheem representative in Seaford for the part needed, and had the sales rep meet him in Berlin with the part. By sundown yesterday, my best friend and her family had heat!!!!
Mr. Bradford did this for FREE. He understood their situation. He has a wife and kids and mortgage of his own, but knew our cry for help for my best friend. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for such a gesture of good faith. Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!

He also works on refrigeration equipment for businesses, as he has several restaurant accounts in Ocean City. His business is newer than others out there locally, but his experience is well over 15 years. Andy Harris For Congress 2010
ANNAPOLIS--State Senator Andy Harris, M.D., yesterday formally announced his candidacy for Maryland's First Congressional District. Harris said his campaign will emphasize the need for good-paying jobs, a strong economy, ending Washington's wasteful spending, and protecting American citizens and values. Don't Throw It Away!
Many of you in Maryland have just received an envelope in the mail from the Director of the State of Maryland's Department of Assessments and Taxation. Every property owner in the state got or will get one, informing him or her of the state's most recent reckoning of the dollar value of each property. Properties are periodically reevaluated by the state and the information made known to municipal and county governments. These governments base changes in their property taxation rates according to the new dollar assessments provided by the state. County and municipal corporations will present their new property tax rates at public hearings in the spring. Tax bills will be issued in July or August.
Here's why you shouldn't throw this letter away without reading it:
Many owner-occupied properties in Maryland receive or are eligible to receive the Homestead Tax Credit. The HTC limits the assessment value on which your county and municipal real estate taxes are based, and can provide a significant reduction in how much tax is due. This reduction can mean hundreds if not thousands of dollars in county and city or town property tax savings for each qualifying homeowner.

Brooke Mulford Update
1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
Well, here we are, exactly one year from the day that Brooke was diagnosed! It feels like a lifetime to me and I know that our lives have been forever changed. I am not the same person I was 1 year ago today. My faith has grown stronger. I really don’t know how a parent survives their child being diagnosed with cancer without having a relationship with God. I know that my faith has been tested many times on this journey but I also know that I always feel the most at peace when I focus on scripture. I know that there are a great number of prayers going up for Brooke everyday and I know that God is listening and I thank everyone for that from the bottom of my heart. I believe with all that I am that God has great plans for Brooke. We have been so blessed by the love and support that we have received and look forward to being able to pay it forward to others going through difficult times.
To recap what Brooke has been through this past year:
8 rounds of chemo (the last 2 of which were lethal doses followed by 2 Stem Cell Transplants), 3 surgeries (2 med comp “tubies” placements in January ’09 and her right Adrenal Gland was removed in May), her own stem cells were harvested for transplant in Feb, she had 12 rounds of radiation to her skull, abdomen & both femurs, 4 ambulance trips from PRMC in Salisbury to CHOP, dozens of blood and platelet transfusions (I lost track long ago of how many), 1 MRI, 5 Bone Marrow Biopsies (I think), numerous MIBG scans, Echocardiograms, EKG’s, X-rays & CT scans (have you seen the recent reports regarding the dangers of having too many CT scans? They said a person having 5 CT’s in a lifetime is like the equivalent of Hiroshima to the body…Brooke’s already had that many and many more to come), she has completed 2 of 5 rounds of antibodies & IL2, she has high frequency hearing loss as a result of the chemo and will be getting hearing aids for both ears, she has spent approximately 25 weeks as an inpatient in the hospital (not including the 2 ½ weeks outpatient for radiation at Univ of Penn).
In the process she has become an unknowing poster child for Neuroblastoma and pediatric cancer with her story being told in USA Today, Salisbury’s The Daily Times, SBYNEWS, Cool Kids Campaign newspaper, local tv stations WBOC & WMDT and Philadelphia’s Action News. Last month my mom was in a waiting room reading south jersey’s The Courier Post newspaper and Brooke’s picture was in there for a story about kids who beat cancer still face heart risks (nothing about Brooke in the story they just used her picture-she must be the stock photo for pediatric cancer now)! Any attention that will help bring awareness to NB and pediatric cancer is definitely a blessing as the funding is scarce.
Salisbury, MD & my hometown Westmont, NJ have rallied together to form Team Brooke and had numerous fundraisers for Brooke’s medical bills and for the NB Research Fund that we have created at CHOP in Brooke’s name. There were golf tournaments, bonfires, beef & beers, basket bingos, walks, concerts, sub sales, bake sales, and so many others. So many people have come together to help our family and we will forever be grateful.
This year has been a rollercoaster and it’s not over yet but we are getting there. I’m attaching a couple of videos I’ve made. The first one I posted about a month ago with the first couple months of Brooke’s journey and the second picks up around where the first leaves off. We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a model separation agreement:
Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio- diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).
We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, Ted Nugent fans and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .
You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.
We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.
We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.
You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep Dixie,The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.
We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Incident: Leaving the Scene of an Accident
Date of Incident: 30 December 2009
Location: 1800 block of Mt. Hermon Road, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Daniel Lee Nelson, 46, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 30 December 2009 at 1036 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a hit and run accident. Upon arrival to the scene, the deputy observed that an unknown individual had driven across the victim’s property mowing down trees. Upon examining the scene, the deputy located what the deputy recognized as pieces of a plastic bug shield. The deputy checked the rest of the neighborhood following the apparent path of the offending vehicle. The deputy located a vehicle in the 1700 block of Crestwood Circle that was missing part of its bug shield. Upon comparing the pieces recovered at the scene with this shield it was evident they were from the same shield.
The deputy made contact with the operator of the vehicle, Daniel Lee Nelson, at the residence. When questioned about the incident, Nelson admitted to running off the road and destroying the trees. The deputy placed Nelson under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Nelson was released by the Commissioner on Personal Recognizance.

Suspect: Wade Hill, 36, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 1 January 2010 at 6:16 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Beaglin Park Drive for a reported altercation. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a female subject who advised that she was involved in an altercation with a cohabitant, Wade Hill that turned physical. Hill reportedly threw a pan of hamburger helper in the sink and pushed the female to the floor. During the altercation, Hill allegedly struck the victim in the eye. While on scene, the deputy observed injuries consistent with the victim’s account.
The deputy placed Hill under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Hill on Personal Recognizance.

Suspect: Vaughn M. Parker, 35, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 2 January 2010 at 1:02 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate an altercation reportedly occurring inside a residence in the 500 block of N. Curlew Rd. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a female subject who advised that she was involved in an argument with Vaughn Parker when that argument turned physical. The victim stated that when she tried to walk away, Vaughn pushed her into the wall. The argument continued as the pair moved into another room at which point Vaughn allegedly pushed the victim over a table. It was at this point the couple’s daughter attempted to intervene at which point Vaughn is accused of punching her repeatedly in her face. The deputy observed injuries on the victims consistent with their accounts.
The deputy placed Vaughn under arrest and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Vaughn in the Detention Center in lieu of $50,000.00 bond.

Suspect: Toriano A. Brown, 29, Charleston, SC
Narrative: On 3 January 2010 at 11:58 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle operated by Toriano Brown on the U.S. 13 by-pass in the area of exit for Rt. 50 east. During the encounter with Brown, the deputy discovered a loaded .44 revolver in the center console of the vehicle. The deputy placed Brown under arrest for the handgun which was within easy reach of Brown.
The deputy transported Brown to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Brown in the detention center in lieu of $10,000.00 bond.

Both of these bills would establish a cap and trade system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Two New York Men Arrested For Big Z's Lighthouse Bar Burglary
Location: Big Z’s Lighthouse Bar and Grill, 26089 Long Neck, Long Neck, DE
Date of Occurrence: Friday, January 1st 2010, at approximately 5:00 am
Defendants:
Steven Guadalupe, 23 years old, of Brooklyn, NY
Daniel Kurzweil, 19 years old, of Staten Island, NY
Resume: Troopers arrested two men from New York in connection with a New Years Day Burglary in Lewes, DE.
Troopers responded to Big Z’s Lighthouse Bar and Grill on New Years Day morning to make contact with the owner of the property about the burglary. When Troopers arrived on the scene they interviewed the business owner in reference to the incident. The two suspects, who are both former employees of Big Z’s Lighthouse Bar and Grill, where also present. The owner of the business stated to police that he thought it was suspicious that the business was burglarized overnight, and both Steven Guadalupe, and Daniel Kurzweil showed up at the business in the early morning to take custody of property that they left behind one month ago.
The investigation revealed that Steven Guadalupe, and Daniel Kurzweil both drove down from New York to pick up Mr. Guadalupe’s radio that he never took when he left the business. When both Steven Guadalupe and Daniel Kurzweil arrived at Big Z’s Lighthouse Bar and Grill no one was there, so they decided to go into the business and get the radio on their own. The suspects entered the business through the rear door. Once inside the suspects removed money from the store’s register and office. The suspects also caused damage to the store’s video surveillance system, before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money, and without the radio.
The suspects later returned to the business when the owner was present in an attempt to obtain the radio. The suspects acted as if they did not know what had occurred at the business. Troopers interviewed both suspects at the scene and upon determining the facts of the case both Steven Guadalupe, and Daniel Kurzweil were taken into custody without incident.
Steven Guadalupe was charged with Burglary 3rd (f), Possession Of Burglary Tools (f), Theft (m), Conspiracy 2nd (f), and Criminal Mischief (m).
Daniel Kurzweil was also charged with Burglary 3rd (f), Possession Of Burglary Tools (m), Theft (m), Conspiracy 2nd (f), and Criminal Mischief (m).
Both Steven Guadalupe, and Daniel Kurzweil were arraigned on their charges, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $6,000 cash bail.

Troopers responded to Big Z’s Lighthouse Bar and Grill on New Years Day morning to make contact with the owner of the property about the burglary. When Troopers arrived on the scene they interviewed the business owner in reference to the incident. The two suspects, who are both former employees of Big Z’s Lighthouse Bar and Grill, where also present. The owner of the business stated to police that he thought it was suspicious that the business was burglarized overnight, and both Steven Guadalupe, and Daniel Kurzweil showed up at the business in the early morning to take custody of property that they left behind one month ago.
The investigation revealed that Steven Guadalupe, and Daniel Kurzweil both drove down from New York to pick up Mr. Guadalupe’s radio that he never took when he left the business. When both Steven Guadalupe and Daniel Kurzweil arrived at Big Z’s Lighthouse Bar and Grill no one was there, so they decided to go into the business and get the radio on their own. The suspects entered the business through the rear door. Once inside the suspects removed money from the store’s register and office. The suspects also caused damage to the store’s video surveillance system, before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money, and without the radio.
The suspects later returned to the business when the owner was present in an attempt to obtain the radio. The suspects acted as if they did not know what had occurred at the business. Troopers interviewed both suspects at the scene and upon determining the facts of the case both Steven Guadalupe, and Daniel Kurzweil were taken into custody without incident.
Steven Guadalupe was charged with Burglary 3rd (f), Possession Of Burglary Tools (f), Theft (m), Conspiracy 2nd (f), and Criminal Mischief (m).
Daniel Kurzweil was also charged with Burglary 3rd (f), Possession Of Burglary Tools (m), Theft (m), Conspiracy 2nd (f), and Criminal Mischief (m).
Both Steven Guadalupe, and Daniel Kurzweil were arraigned on their charges, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $6,000 cash bail.

Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Press Release
CDS Possession-Marijuana; CDS Distribution-Marijuana
Date of Incident: 01/05/2010
Location: Wicomico High School, 201 Long Ave, Salisbury, MD.
Narrative: On January 5, 2010, deputies of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a student that was in possession of marijuana, at Wicomico High School, 201 Long Ave, Salisbury, MD.
Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Division met with school administrators who conducted an administrative search of a juvenile student. A small bag of marijuana was found on the student. After further investigation it was found that another juvenile student was distributing the marijuana within the school. That student was searched and another small bag of marijuana was found on that student.

Blogger Billy Burke Pleads Guilty
Blogger Billy Burke went to court today on felony charges for wire taping. His attorney tried to have the case thrown out but the visiting Judge would have nothing to do with their request.
They tried to claim that a Public Official does not have the right to privacy and the Judge threw out their request for a motion for acquittal.
This put Mr. Burke in a position to plea a deal with the States Attorney. While he will be found guilty for a lesser charge, Mr. Burke will have it on his record for breaking the law, (once again) and illegally recording Mayor Mike McDermott without his knowledge or consent.
No doubt, (with Mr. Burke's warped mind) he will be on his Blog later today claiming a victory in some way, shape or form. However, there's no doubt at this point their tails went between his legs and they retreated to the lesser charge.
The state of Maryland does not alow an individual to make such recordings without the permission of the subject being recorded. Plan and simple. Billy Burke knew this and has been found guilty of such.
Salisbury Fire Department On Fire Again
You know that $80,000.00+ Tractor the SFD just bought to pull their new customized HAZMAT Trailer, well, guess what, there's a lot more to it than ever told before.
As many of you know, Salisbury News is always the first to break major news locally and we're about to do so again.
During the application process, Firefighters were promised that NO MONEY would come from jobs or overtime to help pay for the Tractor. They Lied! Rick Hoppes and Bill Gordy purposely did not hire 4 positions for the past year and they did so to raise the necessary money to pay for this unit.
Talk about Firefighters getting HOT! So much so, the leader of the HAZMAT Team has resigned and from what we hear, many will follow. Right now they only have one individual who is qualified to actually drive the vehicle and he just resigned. Now it sits and even if there's an emergency, that unit will go nowhere. Not that it will ever be used here in Salisbury, just like the Fire Boat.
Anyhow, Gordy and Hoppes continue to dig their holes deeper and deeper and are losing the respect of the people underneath them. Salisbury News stated almost 2 years ago that they SFD was losing Volunteers and that many would not relocate to the new Fire Station 16 and we were right. So much so that the former Fire Chief IGNORED protocol on background checks and hired one individual with a very questionable criminal background and was soon arrested after he was hired.
It should also be noted that Mayor Jim Ireton dismissed the top three candidates who applied for the Chief's position and has asked for a brand new list of applicants. Salisbury News broke the story about some of these individuals also having a questionable criminal history and Mayor Ireton listened. No other News Source provided such information, clearly showing they are afraid to buck the system and challenge the committee leaders.
The good part is, again, we're putting the information out there for all to see and as Salisbury News has grown to a level in which we have surpassed everyone else on the Internet readership wise, people are listening and forcing change. So why is this such a good thing. Because Salisbury spent the last 12 years being blinded with only the information your former leaders wanted you to see and hear.
Today there's a whole new form of accountability and I'm confident the funding that was used to purchase the Tractor and Trailer will now be questioned and researched. Hoppes and Gordy need to stop using PUBLIC SAFETY money to pay for their TOYS at the expense of lives being saved. 4 positions were supposed to be filled and they were not. This is a game Comegys has been playing for many years. They continue to claim they're going to also hire 4 paramedics for the past 5 years, yet they never do. They reserve that money in the budget to hire them and just as soon as these guys want some more toys they come back at the end of the year and say, well, we didn't spend this money so we'd like to use it for this or that.
This is why I firmly agree that the City needs a line item budget. The taxpayers are constantly being scammed.

Investigators from various agencies, including the Delaware State Police Office of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, work diligently to combat this problem using multiple approaches including education, enforcement, and legislation.
A recent trend has come to light that has made it all too easy for suspects to manufacture a fraudulent script. This specifically has to do with what patients do with the bag and literature their prescriptions come with.
It is common knowledge that once a script is filled, the pharmacist places the medicine in a bag. He or she will then attach an informational sheet which often times contains a plethora of information such as the patient’s name, date of birth, doctor writing the script, what the medicine is and the dosage.
Investigators have learned that fraud suspects have been rooting through public trash cans in or around pharmacies to look for these informational sheets that some patients have so carelessly thrown away as they left the store. These sheets contain all the data a prescription fraud suspect may need to forge a script.
Here is an example. Let’s say a patient goes to pharmacy #1 to have a script legitimately filled. On their way out of the pharmacy, they take their medicine bottle out of the bag and discard the bag and informational sheet in the public trash can in front of the store. Along comes a prescription fraud suspect, and, as they’re rooting through the trash cans, they find the discarded info sheet.
With certain knowledge, the prescription fraud suspect could use that information to forge another prescription- again using the actual patient’s name. The suspect could then go to pharmacy #2 and have the bogus script filled. If the pharmacy were to call the doctor to check on the validity of the prescription, it would seem legitimate.
The caper could soon, however, be uncovered if an insurance company or benefit provider were to see a double billing for the same script. This sometimes happens sooner than later as pharmacies often times immediately contact the insurance or benefit provider at the time the prescription is processed.
The answer to this issue is simple; patients need to protect their identity and their personal information by properly disposing of these informational sheets. These informational sheets should be treated with the same sensitivity as one would treat their bank statement. Pharmacies are encouraged to stress the importance of protecting this information with their customers.
Prescription fraud suspects should be warned; investigators are on to this trend and will hold those who are identified accountable for this felonious offense.

Salisbury Police Department Press Releases
On January 4, 2010 at approximately 3:01 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Bank of Delmarva on North Salisbury Boulevard for the report of a robbery. Upon arrival the officers met with bank employees who advised that a lone suspect had entered the bank and approached a teller demanding money. The suspect gave the teller a verbal command and was given an amount of U.S. currency before fleeing from the bank on foot. There were no weapons displayed, and there were no injuries. The suspect was described as:
White male, 5’08”, 215 pounds, heavy build, wearing a black hooded jacket, blue jeans, a dark scarf wrapped around his head and dark sunglasses.

On January 4, 2010 at approximately 1:29 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Royal Farm Store at East Main Street and North Salisbury Boulevard for the report of a robbery. Upon arrival the officers met with store employees who advised that a lone suspect had entered the store and approached the counter asking the cashier questions about item pricing. The suspect then produced a kitchen type knife with a black handle and told the cashier to back away from the cash register. The suspect reached into the register and took an amount of U.S. currency before fleeing from the store on foot north bound. There were no injuries. The suspect was described as:
Black male, 6’03”, 170 pounds, medium build, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white shoes. CC # 201000000511
On January 4, 2010 at approximately 7:00 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Eagle Express Mart on North Salisbury Boulevard for the report of a robbery. Upon arrival the officers met with store employees who advised that the store had been robbed by a single suspect. The employees advised that the suspect entered the store and approached the front counter. The suspect produced a silver in color handgun and ordered the cashier to give the suspect an amount of U.S. currency. The suspect took the currency then fled from the store on foot, north bound toward Bridgeview Street. There were no injuries. The suspect is described as:
Black male, approximately 40 years of age, 5’08”, 180 pounds, wearing a grey jacket and dark in color pants. CC # 201000000541

Freed Guantanamo Detainees Head To Yemen To Rejoin Al Qaeda
At least a dozen former Guantanamo Bay inmates have rejoined Al Qaeda to fight in Yemen,The Times of London reported Tuesday, amid growing concern over the ability of the country’s government to accept almost 100 more former inmates from the detention center.
The Obama Administration promised to close the Guantanamo facility by January 22, a deadline that it will be unable to meet. The 91 Yemeni prisoners in Guantanamo make up the largest national contingent among the 198 being held.
Six prisoners were returned to Yemen last month. After the Christmas Day bomb plot in Detroit, U.S. officials are increasingly concerned that the country is becoming a hot-bed of terrorism. Eleven of the former inmates known to have rejoined Al Qaeda in Yemen were born in Saudi Arabia. The organization merged its Saudi and Yemeni offshoots last year.

Salisbury City Council President, Louise Smith Excludes Tax Payers from Work Sessions
The word is; Salisbury City Council president Louise Smith, at Monday night's work session, has decided that there is not enough public interest in the City Council's work sessions. Typically worksessions take place at 4:30pm in the evenings. Smith, along with other "retired from the work force" council members, have determined that if there is a need for a second work session during the month, it will be held at 9:30AM, during the workday, excluding not only most of the working public from these meetings, but any council member that holds a regular 9 to 5 job.
How's that for transparency?
So, if you are concerned about crime in the city or if you worry about the outrageous spending that's been taking place by the council, *cough cough - fire boat*, and want to be involved, it's just too bad, if you still have a job.

Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.
To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.
The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled by the government.
However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.
The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people, and the businesses they own.
The irony is that the Congress doesn't have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.
This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama administration, of all of your personal healthcare direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.
If you decide not to have healthcare insurance, or if you have private insurance that is not deemed acceptable to the Health Choices Administrator appointed by Obama, there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a tax instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However, that doesn't work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the due process of law.
So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much, out the original ten in the Bill of Rights, that are effectively nullified by this law. It doesn't stop there though.
The 9th Amendment that provides: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;
The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.
I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to "be bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution." If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it, without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.
For those who might doubt the nature of this threat, I suggest they consult the source, the US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. There you can see exactly what we are about to have taken from us.

I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to "be bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution." If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it, without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.
For those who might doubt the nature of this threat, I suggest they consult the source, the US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. There you can see exactly what we are about to have taken from us.

The president has apparently decided that Islamic terror is real, and aimed straight at America. He's even calling terror "terror" (just like George W. Bush).
This was no doubt difficult for the messiah from Hyde Park, who arrived in Washington persuaded that "terrorism" was a figment of George W.'s benighted imagination, that misunderstandings between America and the Muslim world were all the fault of America. A few apologies, a bended knee, a deep head-banging bow to an Arab king would demonstrate that Americans understand at last what chauvinist pigs and imperialist dogs those founding fathers really were &— Englishmen all, with their ignorant ideas about American "exceptionalism" and the idea that free men bow to none but the Almighty.

Administration Knew Of Tactic Used In Airliner Attack Since October
The Obama administration official who declared there was "no smoking gun" that could have alerted authorities about an al-Qaida plot to bring down a U.S. airliner over Detroit had received a personal, high-level briefing in October warning of a new al-Qaida tactic of hiding a bomb in an attacker's underwear.

Against radical Yemen-trained Muslims wearing weaponized briefs? Of course not. That would be too obvious. So instead they imposed a slew of constraints against you. At Heathrow last week, they were permitting only one item of carry-on on U.S. flights. In Toronto, no large purses.

He brought the bomb on board under his private parts, and his private parts weren't part of his carry-on (although, if reports of injuries sustained in his failed mission are correct, they may well have been part of his carry-off). Two Cents Short, Company Tried To Cancel COBRA Benefits
This is one of our editors’ picks from our ongoing roundup of Investigations Elsewhere.
As the recession pushes more Americans to rely on COBRA, the federal program that lets laid-off workers pay to (they’re not really purchasing it), since they already have it keep their employer-provided health insurance for up to 18 months, The Miami Herald’s John Dorschner looks at how well the program works through one particularly trying case.
The stimulus included an initial $24.7 billion to subsidize the cost of premiums paid by laid-off workers for their COBRA benefits. But Dorschner found that above and beyond the cost of premiums, people eligible for the COBRA program can struggle to keep their benefits.

A DUI conviction within 5 years, or a suspension or revocation within 3 years, is an automatic disqualification. A history of traffic violations, or an accumulation of six (6) or more points, is an automatic disqualification.
Criminal Record and Activity- Any felony conviction is an automatic disqualification. Any criminal activity that would be considered a felony under federal law of the state in which the activity occurred is a disqualification. Arrests for any offense must be expunged, and conviction of any offense must be pardoned, prior to submitting an application. (Arrest or conviction for all other crimes and offenses are subject to evaluation.)
Drug Usage- Use of an illegal drug two years prior to application, or at any time usage of a hallucinogenic drug, will be an automatic disqualification. All other drug usage is subject to review. *Weight- Weight must comply with the Delaware State Police weight chart or maximum allowed body fat percentage.

Passenger Becomes Enraged After Minor Traffic Crash, Ultimately Arrested
Location: I-95 on ramp from Route 202 southbound, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County
Date and Time: Friday, January 1, 2010, at 12:57 p.m.
Suspect(s): Jerry Bellefleur, 32, of West 26th Street in Wilmington, Delaware
Resume: On Friday afternoon, January 1st, Troopers were called to the above listed location for the report of a disorderly subject subsequent a vehicle crash.
This investigation revealed a 31-year-old female from Wilmington and a 54-year-old Townsend man were involved in a very minor traffic crash on the I-95 on ramp from Route 202 southbound.
When officers arrived on the scene, they witnessed Jerry Bellefleur, who was originally a passenger in the female’s vehicle, holding a pipe in his hands and was chasing after and threatening the 54-year-old man. Bellefleur allegedly was upset as the parties involved in the crash had exchanged words after the collision.
Bellefleur eventually dropped the pipe and officers took him into custody without further incident. While seated in the back of the officer’s patrol car, Bellefleur damaged the rear window to the cruiser in an attempt to escape.
He was eventually transported back to Troop 1 and charged with the following offenses: Reckless Endangering (misdemeanor), Menacing (misdemeanor), Attempted Escape (misdemeanor), Disorderly Conduct (misdemeanor) and Criminal Mischief (misdemeanor). He was released after posting a $1,500.00 secured bond.

We've just been informed the Coast Guard is looking for a missing boater off Deal Island.
Coast guard is on the scene now. The boat is out of Wenona. Maryland State Police helicopter is also searching.
Northrop Grumman To Move HQ To DC
Defense contractor wants to be closer to key government customers
LOS ANGELES - Defense contractor Northrop Grumman Corp. said Monday it's moving its corporate office from Los Angeles to the Washington, D.C., area to be closer to key government customers.
The company said it expects to make the move by 2011.
Northrop said it was looking for a location in the Washington area, including the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. It plans to pick a site by this spring and open the office in summer 2011.

Date of Occurrence: Monday January 4th, at approximately 8:22 am

2008 Toyota Highlander, being operated by Randolph Smith, 56 years old, of Rehoboth, DE
2004 Toyota Camry, being operated by Thomas B. Lewis, 86 years old, of Rehoboth, DE
Resume: The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating an early morning accident that has taken the life of an 86 year old, Rehoboth, DE, man. The investigation has revealed that the 2008 Toyota Highlander was traveling westbound on Old Landing Road passing the side entrance to the Walmart. The 2004 Toyota Camry was exiting the Walmart parking lot onto Old Landing Road, and did not come to a complete stop before entering the roadway. The front of the 2008 Toyota Highlander struck the left drivers door of the 2004 Toyota Camry.
The operator of the 2004 Toyota Camry, Thomas B. Lewis, 86, of Rehoboth, DE sustained massive head trauma and internal injuries as a result of the collision. Thomas B. Lewis was transported from the scene to Beebe Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The operator of the 2008 Toyota Highlander, Randolph Smith, 56, of Rehoboth, DE, did not sustain injury as a result of the collision.
Both operators where properly restrained, and no others were involved in the accident.
Old Landing Road at the scene of the accident was closed for approximately 2 hours during the investigation. Thomas B. Lewis’s family has been notified of the incident.

State Police Detectives Seek Identity Of Burglary Suspect
Location: Harbeson Deli, 26454 Lewes Georgetown Highway, Harbeson, DE
Date of Occurrence: Friday, January 1st 2010, at approximately 2:02 am
Suspect: White male, between 20-30 years old, 5’10”, and approximately 150-165 pounds, wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt.
Resume: Troop 4 Detectives are investigating a burglary that occurred last week at the Harbeson Deli, Sussex County, DE. Early Friday morning Troopers responded to Harbeson Deli in regards to an alarm. Upon arrival Troopers noticed that someone had forced entry through the front door of the business. The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown suspect entered the business by damaging the front door. Once inside the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cigarettes, and fled.
A Surveillance picture of the suspect was obtained and is attached to this release. Anyone who may recognize this suspect is asked to call Troop 4 Detectives at (302) 856-5850 ext. 214, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800- TIP- 3333.
Lost Golden Retriever

I follow your blog everyday and I know thousands of others do to. That is why I am asking if you could post a picture of my dog on your website asking if anyone has seen her. She is a 7 month old Golden Retriever. She got out on Dec. 31st and hasn't come home yet. She has gotten out before but she has always returned home, that is why I am wondering if someone might have picked her up trying to protect her from the cold weather. She may have been seen walking with 3 other dogs along Rt 313 around the Galestown/Rhodesdale area. She is wearing a turquoise blue collar but does not have tags. She is extremely friendly and will go to anyone. Her name is Peyton and she is a dark golden color, about medium size. My family and I miss her very, very much and would really like her to come home. MISSING PERSON ALERT
Maryland State Police - Salisbury Barrack is currently looking for Mr. Ellwood Henry Morris Sr, B/M, DOB 12-25-45. Mr. Morris was last seen on today's date at 5092 Sailfish Drive Eden, MD 21822. Mr. Morris is an Alzheimer's patient who is currently under the care of a doctor and takes Aricept for his illness. Mr. Morris left his residence on today's date at approximately 0930 hrs wearing only blue jeans, a blue plaid button down shirt, black tennis shoes and a black toboggan. It has been learned that Mr. Morris obtained a brown jacket from a neighbor. His photograph is attached. Anyone with information is asked to contact Salisbury Barrack.

The conventional wisdom is that Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD) faces an uphill battle for re-election. Maryland Sen. Andy Harris (R-7) is formally announcing his candidacy tomorrow. Partially to pre-empt Harris’ announcement and partially to get an early start in leading cheers for their favorite boy, the Daily Times has fired off a few articles and a glowing op-ed to let us all know that “Blue Dog Frank” is INDEPENDENT and he’s facing a tough road to re-election (the game of lower expectations).
Bending the truth is easy over at the Daily Times. Expect plenty more between now and November.
Federal Appliance Rebates Modeled After Cash For Clunkers Launch
Modeled after the popular Cash for Clunkers program, which was intended to get cars with low gas mileage off the road, a federal appliance rebate program is launching in early 2010. It offers a boost to people buying energy-efficient clothes washers, refrigerators and other appliances -- those that qualify for the federal "Energy Star" designation -- and to manufacturers, whose sales fell 10 percent in 2008 and another 12 percent through mid-December this year.The program has only $300 million, one-tenth as much money as Cash for Clunkers, or about $1 per U.S resident, so it could run out fast. States are receiving roughly the same amount per capita, with California getting the most at $35.2 million, but what's eligible varies by state.
Here's what to keep in mind as you decide whether to swap your washer for that supposedly whisper-quiet model or your old white refrigerator for a shapely stainless-steel number.•

Salisbury News Has Biggest Year Ever
2009 has proven to be an incredible year for Salisbury News. While our Alexa Ratings dropped to an all time low, (lower is better) we also went over 5,350,000 visits.
Mind you, we did enjoy national recognition on a few articles, which brought in hundreds of thousands of additional visits we don't consider "normal." We still achieved numbers no one here would have ever dreamed of reaching.
As we had told you in the past, 2010 will bring multiple changes for Salisbury News, all of which I can assure you you're going to enjoy.
There are a lot of nameless people I'd like to thank. Salisbury News receives a TON of tips ranging from jokes to serious issues each and every day, sometimes up to 100 of them a day. Fortunately all of the people sending us information understand we cannot publish everything that comes through. I encourage all of you to please continue to send us whatever you like for consideration.
With time comes wisdom. We are still learning but one thing is for sure, Salisbury News is not the same outlet of information we used to be two, three or even four years ago. With time we have mellowed and with time brought great changes to us as well as our community. We're watching the good old boys disappear, or should I say weakening.

We have opened topics for discussion that four years ago no one would have ever commented on. Today, people are far less afraid of retaliation and are more open to putting their opinions into comments and to me that's my biggest goal with Salisbury News, getting YOU involved.
I hear often, "I don't always agree with what you say Joe." GOOD! I don't want you to always agree with me. Heck, there are many times I put up information I don't always agree with either. However, at least the information gets posted and we can all discuss it and agree to disagree.
One thing I'd like to share with everyone is, I never dodge phone calls. If you have something on your mind you are welcome to call me or write me. I get hundreds of e-mail messages per day and let me assure you that I burn up to 5,000 minutes of cell phone time a month on my phone. There's a lot to do in one days time and as I have proven with almost 11,000 articles in 2009, I have to attend meetings, events and many spontaneous topics that never leave me with a scheduled day. Then there's the new television show, which takes up at least two days out of the week.
I do my best and you better believe along the way I also make mistakes. I believe it's called being human. I'm stretched as far as one man can be and somewhere along the way I have to find down time for my Family. So please be patient and remember, we do all of this as a FREE service to our readers and the community.

Hurricane Chief: Probe Climategate
A former director of the National Hurricane Center called Sunday for an investigation into the “scientific debauchery revealed by ‘Climategate,’” citing the way global warming skeptics have been marginalized by the mainstream media.
Neil Frank, who was director of the National Hurricane Center from 1974 to 1987 called for the investigation Sunday in an article in the Houston Chronicle.
“Particularly disturbing was the way the core IPCC scientists (the believers) marginalized the skeptics of the theory that man-made global warming is large and potentially catastrophic,” Frank wrote. “The e-mails document that the attack on the skeptics was twofold. First, the believers gained control of the main climate-profession journals. This allowed them to block publication of papers written by the skeptics and prohibit unfriendly peer review of their own papers. Second, the skeptics were demonized through false labeling and false accusations.
The science isn’t settled, Frank wrote, despite what “climate alarmists” would lead you to believe. They also attack skeptics by painting them as tools of Big Oil or questioning their qualifications. But they are “numerous and well qualified,” Frank wrote.
“Several years ago two scientists at the University of Oregon became so concerned about the overemphasis on man-made global warming that they put a statement on their Web site and asked for people's endorsement; 32,000 have signed the petition, including more than 9,000 Ph.Ds. More than 700 scientists have endorsed a 231-page Senate minority report that questions man-made global warming.
"Skeptics believe that climate models are grossly over predicting future warming from rising concentrations of carbon dioxide, Frank wrote. “We are being told that numerical models that cannot make accurate 5- to 10-day forecasts can be simplified and run forward for 100 years with results so reliable you can impose an economic disaster on the U.S. and the world,” he added.
