Defense contractor wants to be closer to key government customers
LOS ANGELES - Defense contractor Northrop Grumman Corp. said Monday it's moving its corporate office from Los Angeles to the Washington, D.C., area to be closer to key government customers.
The company said it expects to make the move by 2011.
Northrop said it was looking for a location in the Washington area, including the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. It plans to pick a site by this spring and open the office in summer 2011.

It's not to be closer to Washington. It's because they want the heck out of California!

they are actually only moving around 350 people, so no, it isnt because they want out of california. Northrop still has a huge presence in southern california. particularly their sites in El Segundo and alot in Long Beach and the Valley.
so, this move is actually good for the whole company since they will be moving their corporate folks closer to their biggest customer.
So we lose another.

I am not sure that you read the article, but you should.

This is good for them and for the overal economy of aerospace.
Every other major Aerospace company did this years ago. Northrop was one of the last to hold out.
They still have a global presence and still have a very large presence in Southern California (as I mentioned earlier) especially in El Segundo -- which is near where I live. I was born in Salisbury but I live in the LA area and my wife works for an Aerospace company right next to the Northrop sites that are not leaving california.
