The state spending board continued its fiscal warpath Wednesday, raking university system officials over the coals for murky project explanations and refusing to cover a cost overrun in a statewide radio system.
Led by Gov. Larry Hogan, the Board of Public Works voted 2 to 1 to disapprove a $19 million increase in a $485 million contract to develop a communication system for first responders after learning that agency officials had failed to factor operating costs for the system into the deal with Motorola Inc.
"I just don't think that's acceptable," Hogan said. "That's not the way we want our agencies to do business."

I am so glad that the governor is a real leader and is not throwing away taxpayer's hard earned money. I fully support Governor Hogan!
as usual, the most highly-educated among us have no concept of fiscal responsibility
Very refreshing and encouraging to see a competent Gov. and Comptroller deal with incompetent state bureaucrats !
Go Hogan take back the control of wasteful spending. The University has had a policy of do what we want and screw the State Tax Payers. I am glad their ego spending is brought in check. For this system to be so called the educated only means they twist words better not that they are smarter. This proves they are not offering the best education for the students.
Governor Hogan would really be excited if he had UMES audited.
That would be a REAL eye-opener.
$485 million dollars for WHAT? What the hell are the taxpayers getting for four hundred and eighty five million dollars and why do we supposedly need it?
11:24 You are EXACTLY correct!!!
I used to work at UMES and saw some unbelievable incompetence and waste.
The Gov. needs to brush race aside and just let the facts and numbers do the talking. Audit the place.
I strongly suggest waking up and getting off the shore as soon as possible. The waste on the western front is so much worse. Any waste at UMES would pale to UMCP. Far, far more is wasted in College Park in a day than at UMES in a year. It was Salisbury University's president begging to keep funds for multiple cost overruns to build a student union. I can only imagine how important that is for the taxpayer.
