BETHESDA, Md. (WJLA) – Navigating a restaurant menu can be tough for some parents. Sometimes, even the children's menu has temptations.
Going out to eat can be a treat for some families. Anjali Varma, a mother of two, said she still tries up keep it healthy.
"Sometimes a lemonade or a juice, and we are OK with that from time to time," said Varma.
Varma says milk is usually her drink of choice when it comes to her sons.
Soon, milk and other healthy options may be the requirement on children's menus across Maryland.

I am republican and agree with this soda does NOT belong on a menu just for soda companys to make $.water and oj only.
This needs to go in effect in ALL schools.
it never ceases, does it? why can't Varma just go to another RESTAURANT?
I drank sodas, I ended up okay. Why do we need laws to enact decisions that should be made by parents or adults who have the right to live the lifestyle they wish?
What happen to choice and education.... My mother did not allow much soda in the house. I don't allow much soda in the house. When soda is bought, my daughter is allotted so much.... example (I buy an eight pack of 6/8 ounce soda cans and she is allowed one day).... So when we do go out to eat I have no problem with her getting a soda, she is not allowed an extra re-fill even if it is allowed by the restaurant. If you are a parent that eats out a lot then there are other choices available on a menu and you do not have to allow your child to get a soda every time.... water and lemon is still an option ... I carry flavor water packs.
This is socialism people wake up something Michelle Obama started morons. You have no right to tell me my kids can't drink coke when I visit a restaurant.
Parent already! If you don't want your kids to drink soda, don't let them drink soda! Stop inflicting more and more laws on the American public!
I don't buy soda. It is not something we drink often so when we go out to eat my kids know they can get soda. It's a treat for us. Everything in moderation I believe.
