YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS UPDATE! UPDATE #2 UPDATE #3

UPDATE:
COUNCIL MEETING WILL NOW BE HELD
IN ROOM 1
AT THE WICOMICO CIVIC CENTER.

UPDATE #3: This just in... The meeting will now be held in the basement of the Library.

You may want to go to the County Council Meeting tonight as we have been told they are holding an emergency meeting with the Wicomico Humane Society. ANY ONE who has had issues with the Humane Society should attend!

Remember the Dog we posted on the first of July, (HERE). Well, the Humane Society put the animal down, even though numerous rescue groups from as far away as Pennsylvania and North Carolina contacted them and said they would take the animal in. We're told the Humane Society allegedly ignored these requests and put the animal down anyway.

We have also been told the only place the Humane Society is advertising for the empty Director's position is Craig's List.

Unbelievable! I did not understand from the beginning why the animal was immediately put on the list to be killed. The Humane Society should have let the others take it! Please give updates Joe and the results of this meeting! All who have had problems please attend!

De-fund the Humane society because they are very InHumane! It's so much easier just to kill the animals, then to clean and feed and take care of them. Poor old dog.

Just last week my boyfriend took 3 kittens to the Humane Society and they were extremely ignorant to him and told him that the kittens were too young and they didn't have anyone to take care of them 24/7 so they would just be putting them down. I was shocked and thought we were doing the right thing and instead we were sending the animals to death.

Do you think they'd take Casey Anthony and put her down immediately?

This is such a sad post about the dog... but I HAD to laugh at 2:53 pm's comment about Casey Anthony!!

Sounds like there needs to be some major "house cleaning" for who-ever is responsible for putting this dog down. Pink slips for the entire chain of command, if you ask me!

U mean the library?

I know nothing about the details of this case, and their reasons for handling it the way that they did. However, I will offer some possible reasons that some of you may not have considered before passing judgement on their handling of the situation. If the animal was suffering from an uncurable medical condition, or if the dog had bitten, I do not believe any rescue or Humane Society would or legally could adopt it out. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt, until we find out some more information. I do not believe the Wicomico Humane Society takes putting down an animal lightly or with pleasure. They are faced daily with the tough job of taking care of someone else's failure to be a responsible pet owner.

Then we demand to see the records. Bless this babies heart.

Gosh, I am glad the Council is moving to do something!!!! I hope this time they do!!!
Records need to be kept in strict order out there----they need to have an accountable person on the Board to Know exactly where the money goes & what is happening there on a daily basis!!!!
I only wish I'd known about the meeting in time!!!!!!! They should have let the public know at least a day or two prior to!!!

One doesn't know if the truth will be told about this dog or not. To say he is aggressive & had to be put down would be easy to say. A vets Records of something terminally wrong is an entirely legit explination! Do keep us up on what is happening. I have been there several times, have been lied to also. There needs to be a Clean Sweep there or else the County needs to do something else control & help find animals homes!!

Demand All the Records for the past year from there. No one has ever been held accountable out there & our County knows this!
Nothing should ever be run like this HS has. There is to much freedom to do what ever is wanted. Accountability has to be the top Priority there.

What do you mean they have an empty Directors position? Isn't MS Lugo the Director? Does this mean that there will be another person besides her hired? How is this going to be afforded & give our County the protection & the Animals the protection needed?

Someone with Strong Knowledge & Leadership had better be put in there to handle what's been going wrong for years now!!!

If there are No Records from a Vet saying this dog was terminal, or extremely vicious, which he must not have been since he was left with people----there should be a "house cleaning" at the HS.

I am sick to my stomach thinking this dog could have found a good home with one of the Rescue Groups!

Do let us know exactly what went on at the meeting Joe. I , too would have attended had I know ahead!!!!

Lindo Lugo has been doing this for years! I posted information several years ago regarding my case and dealings with the Wicomico Humane Society. Contacted members of the Bd. of Directors. Contacted anyone I knew had some level of involvement. Even contacted SBYNews. Nothing was done then. Nothing will be done now. Sad but true.

The Board of the Humane Society created a second director's job for Lugo when she stepped down as Executive Director. She is now the Director of Development. Her old position has not been filled yet. When it is, there will be two directors instead of the original one.

This is exactly why I encourage people on here all the time to NEVER take an animal to the Humane Society. I praise the SBY News team for finding owners for lost pets. I praise the people who foster these lost animals until they are reunited with their families. Our family will never step foot in the Humane Society of Wicomico County again. We will continue to serve the surrounding counties.

This "Humane" organization has a long history of complete and total disregard for the animals best interest. I have personally been lied to, and experienced the demise of an animal because of thier actions. It is clear that there is no accountability, and the council needs to investigate the way they are conducting business. I also think a close look needs to be looked at with regards of the relationship members of the council has with employees of the HS. The creation of this organization is to help animals, not put them down without a chance.

Poor dog! Not sure of all the circumstances, but I know for a fact that they are very quick to put down any animal that isn't in perfect health or that they deem to be "unadoptable." If you take a feral cat to them, it will be killed, going straight from the front to euthanisia. Unless things have changed, no effort is made to "tame" or otherwise "rehab" them. If you take any animal to them, they will not call you to tell you it hasn't been adopted so you can adopt it yourself, even if you ask them to do so. Their thought process is that you wouldn't have brought it to them if you had REALLY wanted it and they'll kill it rather than take the risk that you won't be a good owner. As long as the same crew is running things out there, nothing will change. They have thinly veiled contempt for people who bring animals to them and they very quickly become rude to their customers. This is an attitude that starts at the top and is not just tolerated, but celebrated. They routinely lie to people who call in for information about animals they've surrendered or inquired about and will deny people the privilege of adopting an animal because they don't like them, because they don't think they have the right attitude or because they angered a staff member. They become resentful if anybody challenges them and exact vengeance in ways that often have negative outcomes for the animals they are supposed to care for. When they receive donations from the public, some of it goes immediately in the trash, even if it's brand new and has just been bought new by the donator. And, maybe worst of all, they make snide, disdainful, negative comments about those people who donate and who volunteer. 'nuff said.

Anyone have an update from last night's meeting? I wish I had known. I, too, would have gone.

That dog found tied to the fence could have been taken from someones property. The dog was never given a chance for someone to find his owner.

The perfect person for this job at the Humane society is our Animal Control person in the city. He loves animals and takes care of them.
Only thing I would not like to loose him as the Animal Control here in the city.
Can we clone him???
