An 11-month-old girl died Monday after relatives left her unattended in a bathtub on Sunday, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
About 3 p.m. Sunday, a family member of the girl checked on her in the bathtub at a home in the 18000 block of Cottage Garden Drive in Germantown, according to police.
The girl was unresponsive and police were contacted; the child was then taken by helicopter to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., police said.
She was pronounced dead at about 5:50 a.m. Monday, police said.
No criminal charges have been filed, said police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks. Detectives are coordinating with Montgomery County Child Protective Services, which is investigating whether the death was the result of neglect.
The District of Columbia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy, Starks said.
