Michael Vick Back With Nike Endorsement Deal

After cutting ties with quarterback Michael Vick in 2007 following his involvement in a dogfighting ring, the shoe giant has apparently decided that Vick's on-field performance has restored his good name enough to re-enlist him with an endorsement deal.

USA Today reports Vick, who served 21 months in prison for his crimes, has accepted free Nike equipment since 2009, when he returned to the NFL, and has signed a smattering of endorsement deals since then.

Said Nike in a statement:

"Michael acknowledges his past mistakes. We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field.”

Do you applaud Nike for giving him a second chance, or scorn the company for seemingly forgiving Vick for his past?

I have to agree with Nike on this one. Yes, Vick did something very wrong, and he paid the price. He has been trying to redeem himself ever since being released from prison, including speaking to school kids (as he did in Worcester, I believe). How long does he have to keep on paying? He is a good example of one who can make a mistake, pay, and turn his life around.

How come everyone forgives him for his mistake but continues to persacute the one time sex offender? He made one mistake and went to jail and paid his price to the community, shouldn't he also be given a second chance? His mistake could have been just beliving the girl when she told him she was 16, the age of consent, but really she was 13. One time he makes a mistake and must pay for it the rest of his life! Vick burnt, beat, clubbed and broke the necks of dogs over and over again for years. We just overlook his years of doing wrong becouse he is a "Star" ? Forgivness is forgivness, eather you forgive all for their mistakes and allow them to move forward with their lives or condem them all!

8:23 who said he actually turned his life around? He did the dog fighting for a long time before he was caught. Who's to say that he wont start it up again just be more discreet? I do not believe people can change. I think that they can learn to be a different way but their true nature will always be there. He enjoyed the fighting, that will not change. I just hope he will learn to stay away from it. But, for what he did, he will always be despicable in my eyes. He is a creep no matter how good at ball he is.

Something such as animal abuse, especially to such extremes is a mistake that should have never been made to begin with. It wasn't an honest mistake that he has paid for. Just cruel behaviour that would still be going on if he hadn't gotten caught. The poor dogs that had to suffer due to his 'mistake' deserve better than to be forgotten. If I accidentally let my pet get in harms way then that is a mistake. Purposefully and repeatedly torturing them is not.

There should be no forgiveness for such a man. "Mistake?!?!?" What he did was no mistake! Had he not been caught, he'd still be torturing defenseless animals. The leopard doesn't change his spots. Nike will never see a dime of my money.
