"Police Officers Are Lackadaisy And I'm Going To Change That"

In a forum held today with the Chamber of Commerce, candidate Seth Mitchell went after ALL  Police Officers stating they are too "lackadaisy". They are too friendly with criminals and they don't show up for court.

Folks, is this guy in the real world or does he actually believe the leaders of all these local agencies have no control over officers who allegedly refuse to show up for court dates?

All I can tell you within this particular post is that Maciarello spanked Mitchell once again. I'll explain more in my next post.

Does any of you remember this guy as a Public Defender....

Really Seth, you made more deals than Bob Barker as a Public Defender, did you ever win a case? Not with me, thats for sure.

Nice guy, but really...

Who remembers "STET Mitchell"

This guy has lost more cases and made more plea deals than I care to remember. I would know, I have locked up at least four of his clients in the past, two of which are still serving time.

Yeh, he is a nice guy, but not the one to be tough on crime

Folks read between the lines - Wicomico County Law Enforcement as a whole supports Matt Maciarello from the bottom to the top - Call one of the Law enforcement leaders of this county and they will tell you without hesitation that they will be voting for Maciarello. One simple reason - they want creditability restored to the WCSA Office. Michell has no credibility in or out of the court room - its no secret - talk to him for fifteen seconds and you to will see.

AND he is philosophically opposed to the death penalty. Do we really want that quality in our states attorney?

Some officers are "lackadaisy" , the reason is they have so many restrictions , since Rodney King the criminals have the advantage.
They should have shot that guy.

I have some of Seth's history stored up. It's not consistent with with his claims.
And no, he is not a nice guy, he never has been, and he never will be. He doesn't have the character to admit when he's wrong and to be gracious when he's right.

Seth needs to realize that the office he seeks is not just about having 23 years experience in a courtroom it is also about having character of which he has NONE!!!!
Making general statements like he does is not fair to all the hard working officer's.A Good Leader doesn't call his troops names he should lead with respect to all who are involved. S.B.

Why does Mr. Mitchell care whether or not police officers show up for court?!? I sat in a court room last November and watched as Mr. Mitchell and the defendant blatantly lied under oath to a judge. The person he was defending was a family member of mine. This family member has serious psychological issues and I knew she was going to lie to try and get out of the trouble she was in, it is how she has gotten through life. I have known this about her for my entire life so I gave Mr. Mitchell a call and voiced my concerns and asked him to check into the things she was telling him, told him what I knew to be a lie, I even offered to provide him with proof of the lies. I also asked him, if he was going to suggest she take a plea, if he could some how work into the deal that she needs a psych eval or some sort of counseling. I all but begged him to help her get her life straight. He ignored my requests and stood in that court room and recited every single thing she told him about her medical history, family history, etc. It was all lies and those lies did not come out of the defendant's mouth, they came out of his mouth because he did not bother to check into her history to try and get her the help she needs. I left that court room stunned and having very little faith in Mr. Mitchell... and not as a lawyer, but as a human being.

I knoe nothing about the case you referred to, but you made one misstatement. That was about the lawyers and the defendents being sworn to tell the truth. You are only half right. The defendent and witnesses take an oath to tell the truth, but the attorneys for either side are under no oath to tell the truth. To he contrary, it's the attorney's job to pursuade the judge/jury to buy the bill of goods that his side is presenting. Witnesses are supposed to tell the truth on the stand, but the attorneys are not on the stand, take no oath of truthfulness. they can and sometimes do, get far from the truth. The attoney's job is to win the case.

I remember ole Seth, when he was a ASA (Assistant States Attorney)I never won a case, when he was a Defense Attorney I never lost one.

The comments about Seth being a "nice guy" are shocking to me...unless there is a side to the man I have never seen. I don't know anyone who knows him personally who would describe him that way.

Seth Mitchell: Sometimes it's better to be considered a fool than open your mouth and prove it. It's no wonder you have not been endorsed by the police. What you said today was offensive and rude. Yes I'm sure that there are bad apples in our police force. We obviously have an idiot in you in the public defenders office. The main thing I would change is you being on the unemployment line.

I sure hope you're not a cop. If you are I hope the new chief weeds you and any like you out of this profession.

5:05, you are sorely mistaken. As a lawyer, I know firsthand that we do, in fact, take oaths to officially become lawyers. Furthermore, we are subject to an area of law that specifically regulates lawyer conduct. It's called professional responsibility, and included in it is to not present information to the tribunal (ie, the courts) information which we know to be untrue. If the claim against him is indeed true then he has violated that particular code and can be reprimanded by the bar.

So basically, 5:05, don't talk about things of which you do not know. It's really annoying to see people lately act like they know about law, the judicial system, etc., when they only know what they see on tv or read on the internet.

and PS- Wicomico County is notorious for its lack of police attendance in court. There are some who are dedicated and show up as much as they can, but some really don't give a crap and wind up costing the State its case. I wish that was untrue but its a fact. Ask any judge or criminal attorney.

The word is "lackadaisical."

With the record Seth seems to have it's no wonder the police are "lackadaisy". They do their job to have these criminals arrested and people like Seth set them free. It has got to be frustrating to do all the work to get them locked up only to be set free by people like Seth.

I am a lawyer and I can tell you that it is rare occasion in Circuit Court (where the more serious cases are tried) that the police officer does not show up for court. Most police officers are very, very involved in their cases and want the best possible outcome. They put a lot of work into these cases and care about the victims and the community. Seth Mitchell has not been in court enough in the past 10 years to know anything about police officers.

mitchell is a sore losser and could not win a case if his life depended on it he hates all law enforcement

One simple phrase. Seth is an idiot.

Enough said.

Amen 9:19! And what people don't know is the police get very little scheduling flexibility from the courts which pulls them off the street for fighting crime!

They can get pulled and sit there and sit there, then get sent away when the case finally goes in and gets a postponement. Then they got to go back.

Anyone knocking the police over this needs a good lickin' behind the wood shed!

Its the Police who keep going out and locking up criminal but its the lawyers and judges who let them go.
