Today's Survey Question

Maryland lags behind the national average on gas tax.

Is it time to start paying a higher gas tax?

Actually, Miller has already made a promise at a Wetern MD appearance nearly a year ago that he WOULD raise the gas tax if reelected. Whether MD should raise the tax simply because it is lower than other places is too simple a question.

The fuel tax is supposed to go into the Highway Trust Fund (and stay there) to pay for transportation needs. Unfortunately, MD's Legislature has been dipping into it for years to pay for other things. No matter how often you raise the tax, there will never be enough money in the Fund so why raise it at all?

Oh yeah --- I'm absolutely POSITIVE that all Marylanders want to pay MORE taxes and give our spend crazy politicians MORE funds to waste...how about REDUCING the taxes on gasoline and cut some of the governments frivilous spending on "junkets" and travel to foreign nation (with their families and friends and bloated staffs) to "explore business oppotunities" in other nations...also known as "vacations" to the rest of the working peasant class.

Maryland makes up for it by taxing the life out of its citizens everywhere else... so my vote would be NO!

Well, that depends, if you want Americans to stop traveling and spending money on vacatons, then go ahead and raise the tax, we will just drive less.

because everyone else charges higher taxes is not a reason to raise taxes. raise taxes "because we can" is not a reason either. just like the give ourselves a raise because we can should never be an option for congress.

Yes! Let's raise ALL taxes! Kill business and make us a nanny state with no rewards for making more profits! Kill us all now that we're down.
