A Letter To The Editor

Joe, I had to send this to you.  This is a reply (Anonymous, as usual) from one of your readers re: the notice that a woman has been appointed as Chief of Police in Salisbury.  I know it is just one little blurb but proves that all your readers are not fully equipped with an over abundance of gray matter.  The statement was,

Look at Chief Dipino in Ocean City, took a department of old hasbeens and turned it around........ first class Chief!

First there would be many that would argue that she was not the Messiah for OCPD, but that not withstanding, to say that she is the person responsible for the greatness of OCPD is absolutely ludicrous.  The person  that started the revamping was Lee Duggan...he inherited an Agency that was in dire need of leadership.  After Lee left, the department staggered a bit but Lee was returned to the helm and then passed the baton to Dave Massey who handed Dipino the keys to a pretty fair department.  OCPD has some excellent officers which are paid well and respected by many in the world of Law Enforcement.  Chiefs help but the men and women of any organization are the life blood.

I hope the new Chief in Salisbury is up to the task but with all the bickering that seems to be prevalent she may have a rough row to hoe, as they say.

You can have all the talent in the world, without the right leadership, talent means nothing. The men and women of any organization are the life blood, but without proper leadership and direction, the blood will not pump.

Look at the Orioles, look what leadership has done.

Look. Everyone can specyoolate till the moo moos come home but the facts are this.

1. Ireton didn't send Barkley up to council. Certainly got Bubba, Weezy and Shamie off the hook for a vote against him.

2. Ireton put forward his crony (who is a great guy, btw, but not what the rank and file wanted either) and that didn't fly.

3. Ireton advances this gal. She's been a chief before, coming here to be closer to family.

Now the question is, whether or not the people will give the new chief a chance or not.

Comparing this to O.C. or to another female chief, how does that help anything or fight crime? It's all just blather.

Cut off your noses, spite your faces if you like. You got to live in it, so make a choice.

Hmmmm.....given the mess that is going on right now with the terrible crime wave, I wonder what true chance she has - I hope she is as good as she appears on paper adn can bring fresh perspective to a thankless job...
