SEATTLE — Women across nearly every income level gave significantly more to charity than men — nearly twice as much in some cases — according to a study by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.
Nonprofits have long suspected that women were the driving forces behind many of the gifts they receive, but they haven't had much proof.
But the results of this study are so decisive and consistent, they can stop wondering, said Debra Mesch, director of the university's Women's Philanthropy Institute.
The study offered several factors the researchers thought contributed to the growing generosity of women: More women are working and their incomes have grown, more have college degrees that yield greater earning power, and the percentage of women who make more money than their working husbands is now about 26 percent.
The study released Thursday found women give more in every income bracket except one: Those with incomes of between $23,509 and $43,500.

No surprise here.
they are the nuturers. men are the providers and the fixers. if we can once again get back to those traditionalist beliefs, we will have a productive society again.
Women are way more likely to volunteer so that nonprofit organizations can claim inkind(time quantified) on their books which is required to match the funding given. This is most likely because they have historically been the lesser bread winner in the family.
Tradional beliefs are fine and dandy for the husband who fully supports the wife staying at home for the right reasons. But too many times it is used as a form of control
The #1 form of domestic abuse is financial abuse. The husband rules the roost, sort of saying, and mentally controls the wife through the fear of her not being able to financially survive without him. there are many women who have put up with abuse and their children being abused physically or sexually because their worst fear was being homeless.
Three rules for all women. Get an education, have a secret savings account, and always have a plan B.
The men are the earners. The women are professional money spenders. DUH.
5:41....on a scale of 1-10, just how bitter are you? if I found out my wife had a "secret savings account", she BETTER have a "plan B" because she would be going to it the very same day. I am not going to work so that someone in my family, especially (!) my wife, was making preparations to leave me or planning for that possibility. Not exactly what I call a devoted and loving relationship. No matter what Cosmopolitan magazine says....
