SHOREBIRDS GAME NOTES: April 30 @ Asheville

PREVIEW: The Tourists scored the go ahead run in the eighth inning last night to level the series heading into game three. Delmarva squandered numerous opportunities in game two. They went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. The ‘Birds drop to fourth place in the Northern Division as the BlueClaws, Suns and Crawdads all won last night.

NO EARLY RUNS: The Shorebirds have not scored in the first or second innings in the last six games. The last time they plated an early run was on April 22 against Greensboro when they tallied one in the first inning and two runs in the second.

BERRY IN LAST TWO: Ryan Berry has been dominant over his last two starts. In 14.0 combined innings, he has allowed just nine hits and one run. Berry has also fanned 15 batters, while issuing just one walk.

5th IN THE LEAGUE: Garabez Rosa has climbed into the SAL’s top ten in batting average (.353) for the first time this season. He notched two more doubles in game one against the Tourists. He ranks second in the league with 11.

3rd IN THE LEAGUE: The Shorebirds are third in the league in hit by pitches with 15. The BlueClaws lead the league with 19 HBPs. At least one ‘Birds player has been hit by a pitch in each of the last four games.

NO SB’S IN LAST THREE: The Shorebirds have not stolen a base in the last three games. Mikey Planeta has the last stolen base on 4/25 against Hagerstown.

ONE RUN GAMES: The Shorebirds have played seven one-run games this season. The ‘Birds are 3-4 in those games.

INTO THE NINTH: The Shorebirds have played five games this season in which the game was tied heading into the ninth. They are 3-2. No other SAL team has been tied into the ninth five times.
