WOW, When their own people get it, I wonder if any of them will realize how true this is...

Note that the author's current success was based on the fact that she had a social safety net to fall back on in the early years.

The entitlements breaking the bank are social security, medicade, and medicare, programs which all Americans utilize (so don't try to paint this as a race issue). And while I'm all for strong reform in the system, too many people want to take the easy way out by claiming it's those "welfare queens in cadillacs" making the gov. go broke. Thats all an excuse for the politicians not to tackle the real problems.

Exactly. Did anyone see 60 minutes last night? It was all about the world trade center and how the new buildings were supposed to be completed by now but there is nothing done. After being Billions of dollars over budget. It is all because of politics and the changing hands of responsibility coupled with people running the show with no vision. A perfect example of the reality of what our tax dollars pay for.

I would encourage her to promote her views to the people in the community in which she came from, blogging is easy and sometimes insulates people from personal attacks in which otherwise would take place.most of the poor community dont have internet, put it on a flyer with their welfare check and see how far it gets you.they are happy right where they are unless you want to give um more.the new movement is to have more kids,if your fertal the govt pays.the "babies momma movement".maybe we should segragate capitalism and socializm?????????

Ms. Parker,
The first seven (7) paragraph, I agree with you. Fortunately for you and with the grace of GOD, you had found a way out. Probably through the programs (TANF, JOBS, EANF, Section 8 housing and food stamps) you took advantage of. The bottom line is, teenage girls will continue to have babies out of wedlock with or without the government help. Single women with or without jobs will continue to have babies out of wedlock with or without government assistance. They know as long as they have these babies out of wedlock, someone, something or some organization is going to help them.

The sad thing about the single working mom with kids is, their employers insurance preminum will always be high. The workload for others increases everytime they leave early from work for child care issues. The workload increases for others when they are pregnant and working up or until they have their babies out of wedlock. They get to work their choice of shift due to child care or educational issues. They benifit from the family leave act. The fathers will ride the coattails of their babies momma's because they know they are receiving some form of government assistances. The parents will benifit because their teenage daughters education is practically paid for. Everyone involved in the welfare of the children will benifits royally due to the many tax exemptions offered by the government.

It's not a matter of whether the government has created todays plantation for Blacks or any other ethic groups. It is a matter of choice. These young teenage girls and single mothers are having these babies just to get over on their employers and the government with or without a job.

You should ask yourself, who is helping the young single men and women who work full times jobs but are paid under the poverty level yearly and do not have children? No one.
No tax exemption for them.
No free education for them.
No section 8 for them.
No government assistant for them.
All because they have no childrens.

This is not the government plantation. It is a choice that these teenage girls and grown azz women are making. Don't forget the "Pregant Pact".

Shame on you for blaming this President. Hell! My school friends were having babies in high school before graduation. That was in the 70's. And, this problems has continue through the year 2010.

Ms. Parker,
Look at the Octo Mom. The whole entire State of California's taxpayers is footing her bill.

I guess she is living on a multi million dollar plantation.

You really need to go back to school and study American history. That includes Black and Native American history.

I think Americans of all races have the right to be upset. But lets get something clear. Women don't get pregnant because "Oh I can get more aid". The fact is that poverty is like social AIDS. Palin's daughter can make a mistake and get knocked up, but who cares, they have the means to take care of the child. But the teenage girl from the inner-city who makes the same mistake doesn't and she (and us) end up paying for it.

6:42 pm,

You really don't get it.

Who tells the inner city teenage girls to spread their legs. Then allow some boy or man to have sex with them and impregnant their fast behind. "Choice."

Those teenagers will receive assistance from the government, family or friends. And, there is nothing you or I can do about it.

Their decisions to have a child out of wedlock affects us economically. In the work force. In the field of education, etc. etc. Even, who needs the job more whether they have experience or not. Single mothers got it made in the shade.

No matter how disquisted you may feel, we all pay for their choices. These unmarried teenage girls and adult women from all economic backgrounds are going to have children out of wedlock whether we like it or not. And, our hard working earned monies will pay them.

What can we do about it? Absolutely nothing.

What can we do about it? Stop giving people more money because they have more kids. Put term limits on receiving public assistance, make them attend job training classes, incorporate drug testing for anyone receiving assistance, and go out and find jobs or they lose their free meal ticket. When you stop holding their hands and giving them everything, people will have to start fending for themselves. If they do it legally then they make a better life for themselves and their children.

GIovanni, I am for all of the above. Thumbs up to you.

7:53am. Don't get it? I've experienced the spectrum of these situations from a

1) mother who needed public assistance for 3-4 years after she lost a great job (business closed) and could only find minimum wage work
to
2) girls/women who make a mistake, become pregnant, and work hard (with the help of aid) to make something of themselves and be off of aid within several years.
to
3) dummies who repeatedly have kids that they can't take care of.

My point, people want to bash all of these mothers, but a majority of them look more like #1 or #2. So don't lump them all into #3 (who often deserve to be ridiculed).

Now that we have establish being single with kids will get you aid, who is helping all the single men and women who do not have kids and are unemployed. This include the elderly.

And 9:34 am,
Why is #2 receiving any type of aid if she is working hard. There are too many single men without children who can't find a job. What kind of aid can they receive.
Furthermore, their are plenty of married couples with kids doing just find.

The point is, women should wait until they are married before they have children out of wedlock. Some of you think it is ok to have babies out of wedlock because that is how you lived your life. But it is not ok.

As long as society say it's ok, these teenage girls and single mothers will continue having babies out of wedlock. How does it feel to be 27 years old with 8 kids. These are the type of women getting the 40,000.00 dollar annual jobs and the men are in jail.

I get it. Some of you do not.

All I've seen for 62 years of my life is:
Teenage girls are nothing but women in training to be prey upon by young boys and men.
Boys are nothing but Momma boys who know nothing of responsibilties except to their moms.
All because these single mothers are too busy working and no one is teaching these children how to become productive citizens. All they know is hand outs. And, if it is not given too them, these kids cheat, steal or kill to get what they want. Look at the prison system and see how many young people are incarcerated. Now, if prison is the new plantations, then I agree with the writer.
All you people who want to defend the single mothers and teenagers who have kids out of wedlock, truly aren't getting it.
