Obama Offers New Plan To Limit Insurance Hikes

Proposal would allow government to nix health premium increases

WASHINGTON
- President Barack Obama is making a fresh attempt to rescue his health care overhaul by proposing a measure that would allow the government to deny or roll back egregious insurance premium increases that infuriate consumers.

Coming just days before a White House health care summit with congressional leaders of both parties, Obama's legislative proposal, which will be unveiled later Monday, likely represents the president's last chance to salvage his signature issue.

A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity because details have not yet been officially released, said the insurance rate proposal would give the federal Health and Human Services Department — in conjunction with state authorities — the power to deny substantial premium increases, limit them, or demand rebates for consumers.

Since this public knowledge, our insurance has upped our employee cost to $25.00 more a month. Guess there gonna start gouging while they can!

it says they could "deny or rollback", dosent say they will.

Typical political bs to get the whole package through...

Insurance companies are not charities. When the cost of care goes up the insurance premium goes up.
Obama is just trying to force the companies out of business so he can argue for Obamacare.
People have the choice right now to buy however much medical insurance they want or don't want.
When Obamacare gets forced through, you won't have any choices.
Obama.....what a commie!

3:48... you are foolish. People don't have the choice right now. If your employer offers a plan, that is it. You could go out on your own, but if you have any kind of "pre-exisiting" condition you are going to get gouged. If the insurance company through your employer decides to raise rates sky high what are you to do then? Look at what Anthem and Wellpoint are doing in California. Health care costs are going up because of the insurance industry. 3:48 you either have never been sick enough to depend on insurance, on medicare, or very wealthy and able to afford the cadillac plans. The majority of people are not in the same boat.
