Soon you’ll be able to drop by your local Ford dealer and order an electric car, but it’s going to cost you.
During an exclusive interview with FOXNews.com, Lisa Drake, Chief Engineer for Ford Global Hybrid and Battery Electric Vehicles told the FOX Car Report LIVE! program that her company’s upcoming electric vehicle will be priced between $50,000 and $70,000 when it goes on sale in 2010.

How many people are going to buy a $50,000 car without a job, are those who are making $7.00 per hour at wal-mart.
oh, ye'h...that is a "Kitty Magnet." Look, it is hard enough for me to make a mini-van look cool {but I dos what I do ;)}; but even I can't make a case for this. Does this thing come with a dashboard fondue pot and a pre-emptive surrender to Germany, too???

it will take 10 years to break even on this car rather than buying a conventional car at $4 per gallon.
That's nice, but how am I supposed to power this? There are no electric plug-in stations in the state of Maryland, and lots of folks like me don't have a garage (I rent) for overnight plug-in charges. This is putting the cart before the horse.
And this weeks repremand off GM and ousting of thier CEO was because of the price of thier version??? wtf
Wouldnt it be cool if they could make a car that was also a total solar panel? The SUN is the single biggest energy force at our disposal and we hardly exploit it at all.
I have solar panels on my Motor Coach. It's pretty cool stuff.
This is another case of somebody offering something that isn't really offering you anything at all.
Build a car that runs like that and gets that kind of gas mileage and it's unaffordable!
When the vehicle doesn't sell, Ford will tell the feds "well we built the car you wanted, but it didn't sell". What a joke!
There is NO reason why they can't build more efficient cars/trucks. They don't WANT to. Neither does the government! You will buy less gas and therefore pay less gasoline taxes!
Energy tax credits are the same way.
Delaware offers you tax credits for doing upgrades to windows, etc. to make your home more energy efficient, BUT you have to use a contractor from their "list" for purchase and install! After that, you have saved nothing!
Just another gimmick!
As long as the back isn't filled with batteries and its batteries don't need replacing every 3 years, I could see buying something like that as a low cost runabout.
Including depreciation, the long term costs should be comparable to an ordinary gasser.
$50,000 for a ford? As much as ford break down and cost more in repairs, this thing better have one hell of a warranty. for life! I like the stripper pole comment. The back and side should be windows. All you have to do is drive and dance. ppl toss dollars at ya at red lights! hey, the fire dept will get one!
