45 Life Lessons

This was written by a guy named Brett who writes columns for The Plain Dealer, a newspaper in Cleveland, Ohio.

To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolls over to 70 in August, so here goes:


1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don 't worry; Go d never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

Paul D's Taxi Sucks!

"Joe,

Recently I was cut off by a "taxi" in Salisbury on Salisbury Parkway. After I read the name on the side of the vehicle I called their listed number. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone said he was the owner and said he was driving the vehicle at the time and he said next time to "move out of the way".

So I called the Salisbury Police Department, there wasn't much they could do after the point. So I did some research. It turns out the owner of the taxi service is Paul Douglas Dunford. The taxi service is called "Paul D's Taxi," it services Salisbury. The owner and sole operator of Paul D's Taxi is operating a with a suspended driver's license.

I've called the Wicomico County Sheriffs Department and the Salisbury Police Department to tell them of my findings, both agencies said there wasn't anything they could do. Now mind you to get a Taxi license you have to go through the Sheriff's Department.

I would like you to advice your readers that if you see a greenish colored van with the letters Paul D's taxi on the side of it to call the Salisbury Police Department, Wicomico County Sheriff's Department, or 911."

Obviously if someone goes through all of this trouble, this guy was out of line. Hopefully the Sheriff's Office does something about it.

TAXICAB DRIVER PAUL DUNFORD ARRESTED!!!!

"Joe,

Thanks so much for posting that information. I'll have you know that I was very pissed by being cut off. After my investigation I found that he mostly drove at night, so last night I drove myself around Salisbury, on Sam's Club gas of course, and within an hour what did I find? I found Paul D's Taxi driven by Paul Dunford himself. I called the Salisbury Police Department and a few minutes later he was arrested (but you'll never see the press release).

I am sure that he will attempt to drive again and I will make sure if/when it happens he will be arrested.

After he was arrested and in the police car I talked to the arresting officer to commend him for respond so quickly, he stated that Paul Dunford's driving privileges were suspended due to him refusing to pay child support, he said that Paul Dunford relayed to him that he had an 11 year old son and 8 year old daughter who he has abandoned.

Volunteer Disfigured Because of Support for McCain

Is this what America has come to?  John McCain has been pilloried in the MSM for remarks supposedly made by some supporters at rallies.  Barack Obama has publicly called on his supporters to "get in their face":

I want you to argue with them and get in their face," he said.

Well, at least one Obama-supporting thug has taken the "ONE" a little too seriously.

Ashley Todd, a 20 year old McCain volunteer from Texas was viciously attacked in Pittsburgh.  While the initial attack was simple robbery, the Obama thug became incensed at the McCain bumper sticker on her car:

Todd handed the man $60 she had in her pocket and stepped away from him, investigators said. The man then noticed the bumper sticker on the woman's car, which was parked in front of the ATM. The man became very angry, made comments to Todd about John McCain and punched her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground, police said.

"He continued to kick and punch her repeatedly and said he would teach her a lesson for supporting John McCain," said police Chief Nate Harper.

The man then carved the "B" into Todd's right cheek.

I wonder what the "B" stands for?

County Commissioners Create Department Of Emergency Services

On July 29, 2008, the County Commissioners of Caroline County announced the creation of the Department of Emergency Services by adopting Resolution #2008-023. The new Department will consolidate all emergency services delivered by the County into one department by combining the former Departments of Emergency Management and Emergency Medical Services.

"By combining these related departments, administrative efficiency will be improved. That ultimately translates to better quality services delivered more efficiently to the residents of Caroline County," said Jack Cole, President of the County Commissioners.

Bryan C. Ebling was appointed by the Commissioners to serve as the Director of the new Department. Mr. Ebling was the Director of the former Department of Emergency Management, and has been a County employee for 29 years. He is also a member of the Ridgely Volunteer Fire Department, and is a licensed paramedic.

"Bryan's vast experience with emergency management, volunteer fire companies, and emergency medical service make him a natural fit for this position. He has also has served the County for a long time and is an accomplished manager of both people and projects," said County Commission Vice President Roger Layton.

The Department of Emergency Services will have three divisions: the Division of Emergency Planning and Risk Management, the Division of Emergency Communications, and the Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Each Division will be overseen by an Assistant Director, each of which will be classified employees reporting to the Director. Cindy Towers has been named the Assistant Director for the Division of Emergency Planning and Risk Management and Kevin Gillespie has been named the Assistant Director for the Division of Emergency Medical Services. The position of Assistant Director for the Communications Division has not yet been filled. The equivalent position in place before the restructuring has been vacant since the passing of Curtis Harvey.

The Department of Emergency Services will be responsible for coordinating all emergency services for the County, including the County's disaster preparedness program, emergency communications system, and risk management program. Also among the Department's duties will be the provision of emergency medical services and the operation of emergency related services, including the coordination of volunteer fire suppression, rescue and EMS services.

"Obviously this is a change, but we are confident it is a positive one," said County Commissioner Jeff Ghrist. "Good government requires reevaluating the way services are provided and seizing opportunities to streamline administratively. Ultimately, it's about providing the best services possible to the people of Caroline County, in the most efficient manner."

As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of
groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open.
The old man was looking at the engine. I put my groceries away in my car and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet away.

I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm,
walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too and took a few steps towards him. I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something.
The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new
Cadillac Escalade and then turn back to the old man and I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying, 'You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age.' And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot.

I saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine. He then went to his wife and spoke wit h her and appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight and as I got near him I said, 'Looks like you're having a problem.'

He smiled sheepishly and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me. Looking around I saw a gas station up the road and told the old man that I would be right back. I drove to the station and went inside and saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them and related the problem the old man had with his car and offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him.

The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine) I spoke with the old gentleman.

When I shook hands with him earlier he had noticed my Marine Corps ring and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, 'What outfit did you serve with?'

He had mentioned that he served with the first Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. He had hit all the big ones and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me and I told him I would just put the bill on my AAA card.

He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it and I stuck it in my pocket. We all shook hands again and I said my goodbye's to his wife.

I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the
station. Once at the station I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me. One of them pulled out a card from his pocket looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then, that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off.

For some reason I had gone about two blocks when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name........ 'Congressional Medal of Honor Society.'

I sat there motionless looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together, because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage and an honor to have been in his presence.

Lowering Of The Maryland State Flag To Half Staff

This is to advise you that Governor Martin O’Malley has ordered the Maryland State Flag flown at half staff immediately. This is in memory of Officer Richard M. Bremer of the Frederick Police Department, who died yesterday in the line of duty. The flag shall continue to be flown at half staff until sunset on the day of the funeral. This office will send an additional notice when the date of the funeral is released.

NASCAR Is In Deep Trouble

Where Have All The Pellets Gone???????

Are you having the same problem I'm having, I can't find pellets for my pellet stove?

I thought since so many people have purchased pellet stoves in the past couple of years, perhaps we should start advertising who has them in stock and how much they're charging per bag or per ton.

Sam's Club received 14 tons last week and they sold out in a day or two. I called them this morning and asked them when they might expect them in again and they said they hadn't reordered them.

Winter is just beginning and I personally can't believe they're not on the ball with this. I will add, WalMart doesn't have any either. Not the North Salisbury WalMart anyway.

Survival Products usually carries them but they charge much more per bag than anyone else. I believe the Tractor Supply carries them too.

OK, here's the scoop.

Sam's Club. $4.88 per bag
WalMart $5.75 per bag
Tractor Supply $5.99 per bag
NONE IN STOCK! No one can tell me when they will have any back in stock either. I called the Tractor Supply and they told me that their computer is telling them they are "out of season" meaning they can't even order them.

When I called Survival Products, no one answered the phone. When I got to their answering machine it said the mailbox was full. I'll bet if you went to any National Company that sells propane, oil and the likes of such you'd see hundreds of tractor trailer loads of pellets stored on their property?

OK, so do YOU know where they can be found and for how much?

For the Bean counters..From a financial perspective... A President's pension currently is $191,300.00 per year, until he is 80 years old. Assuming the next president lives to age 80, Sen.Mc Cain would receive ZERO pension as he would reach 80 at the end of two terms president. Sen. Obama would be retired for 26 years after two terms and would receive $4,973,800.00 in pension. (read carefully as it is almost $5 Million) Therefore, it would certainly make economic sense to elect McCain in November.... along with all the other good reasons! How's that for non-partisan thinking.

Salisbury Police Department Press Releases

On October 21, 2008 at approximately 11:02 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the four hundered (400) block of South Park Drive for the report of a purse snatching. Upon arrival, the officers met with a victim who advised that her pocketbook had been stolen. The victim advised the officers that she was walking from her residence to her vehicle when she was approached by two (2) suspects. As she put items into her vehicle, one (1) of the suspects struck her from behind and told her not to turn around. One (1) of the suspects then took her pocketbook and both suspects fled from the area on foot. The victim received a minor injury to the facial area, but refused treatment. The investigation is continuing.

The suspects are described as:

1. Black male, approx. 19 years of age, wearing a grey hooded Sweatshirt and dark jeans.

2. Black male, approx. 19 years of age, wearing a blue hooded jacket and dark jeans.

On October 21, 2008 at approximately 1:13 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to an apartment building on Fairground Drive for the report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, the officers were advised by the female victim that she had been assaulted by the below listed suspect during a domestic argument. The officers observed minor injuries to the facial area and hand of the victim. The suspect was still at the premises and was taken into custody. The victim did not seek medical attention for her injuries.

When Is A Lie OK? ... When Frank Kratovil Tells It

Is it ever OK to tell a lie?  If you are a liberal, it seems that lies are perfectly acceptable ... if it is liberals who are telling the lie.  This appears to be the philosophy of the self-identified "independent", "moderate" congressional candidate Frank Kratovil.

Kratovil's campaign is claiming that his opponent, Maryland Sen. Andy Harris, is unfit to serve in Congress because of his refusal to pull an ad which Kratovil claims is "blatantly dishonest".  To Kratovil's sycophantic supporters it matters not that the "evidence" that Kratovil was misquoted is based on an edited audio.

How pure is Frank Kratovil?  Well, Kratovil has run ads that are blatantly untrue.  Research performed by Michael Swartz over at MonoBlogue shows that both a TV ad AND printed material discussing Andy Harris' legislative record is "misleading", to put it kindly.  IF TV are the standard, this makes Kratovil not only a liar but a hypocrite - even if his accusations about Harris are accurate; something I'm not sure about.

One reason that the Kratovil campaign won't release the complete audio of the SU event where he claims that the Daily Times misquoted him is the simple fact that this would verify a greater example of Kratovil's truth handicap.  It was at the same event that Frank Kratovil said that he supported the trillion dollar federal bailout - while claiming that he opposed it the very next night at Cecil Community College.

Frank knows that everyone loves a flip-flopper, and this is a biggie.  No wonder that PolitickerMD is the only outlet that has covered it.  We would never expect the Baltimore Sun or the Daily Times to expend ink on a story that would harm a liberal.

What, then, is the media consensus?  A lie is perfectly OK - as long as a liberal like Frank Kratovil is the one telling it.

A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote pasture in Oklahoma country when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him.

The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, RayBan sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the cowboy, 'If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you give me a calf?'

Bud looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, 'Sure, Why not?'

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer,connects it to his Cingular RAZOR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg , Germany

Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database th rough an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the cowboy and says, 'You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves.'

'That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves,' says Bud.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then the Bud says to the young man, 'Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?'

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, 'Okay, why not?'

'You're a Congressman for the U.S. Government', says Bud.

'Wow! That's correct,' says the yuppie, 'but how did you guess that?'

'No guessing required.' answered the cowboy. 'You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You tried to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing a bout cows...this is a

GANNETT CORPORATION CONTINUES TO TUMBLE

Folks I am not making this stuff up, but Gannett Co., Inc. - (The Daily Times parent Company) - continues to set record lows almost on a daily basis. Today, the stock tumbled to a new record low of $9.08/Share shattering all previous lows.

Just how low will Gannett go remains to be seen, but there is very little cushion remaining at these levels.

Microbrewery To Be In Delmar, Not Salisbury!

"The microbrewery that was once proposed for the old train station in Salisbury is now belly up, it appears. The Knorr brothers have discovered the greener pastures of Delmar, and now are unlikely to look back to the 'Bury. The following recently appeared in the blog "Delmar DustPan":

Other Utility Commissions happenings; the main item was Southern Boys Concept, a company made up of brothers Tom and John Knorr, wants to buy the old IGA building in Delmar and make it into a microbrewery. The two brothers own the Red Roost, Boonies Restaurant, So Bo Wine Bistro, and a restaurant in Guatemala. It looks like a very interesting concept that could add to the interest in people coming to Delmar. They say the noise and smell will not leave the building. They plan a landscaping, paint job, and improved lighting on the building. They will have a tasting room and can sell the product they make on premise (but not to drink on premise). The Utility Commission gave it's approval for the concept. Additional information will be needed from them.

Southern Boys Concept presented their plan to the joint council and it was approved by two votes yes and one vote no (John Outten).

This is a win-win: lower cost in Delmar than in Salisbury to start-up and to operate, but still in the same market area. And Delmar gets more tax revenue.

But not to worry, Salisbury, Barrie will soon start a "microbrewery task force" you can count on that -- and she will probably offer them a "TIF" deal, too."

Incident: Most Wanted Warrant Arrest

Date of Incident: 21 October 2008

Location: 400 block of Trinity Drive, Salisbury, MD

Suspect: Alonzo Drummond, 49, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 15 September 2008 an Arrest Warrant was issued for Alonzo Drummond on the charge of Failing to Register as a Sex Offender. As a condition of a conviction in 2003, Drummond was required to register annually as a Sex Offender with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office. Drummond missed his scheduled July 2008 re-registration date and his whereabouts were unknown.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office categorized Drummond as one of Wicomico’s Most Wanted and profiled Drummond on the Crime Solver’s program on PAC 14. After being profiled, tips to Crime Solvers as to the whereabouts of Drummond led to his arrest on 22 October 2008 when he was located in the 400 block of Trinity Drive.

Drummond was transported to the Central Booking Unit at the Wicomico County Detention Center where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Drummond was detained in the Detention Center in lieu of $5,000.00 bond.

Fruitland Police Department Press Release

On 10/21/08 at 5:00 pm an FPD officer responded to Apple Drug regarding a report of prescription fraud. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with two associated who stated that an individual had dropped off a prescription to be filled and upon inspection of the prescription they believed it to be fictitious; having received an alert earlier this week from Dr. Robert Reilly’s office who had reported that at least one prescription pad had been stolen and several had been presented at various pharmacies in attempt to obtain Oxycotin and Percocet. At 5:20 pm, the individual who had requested this prescription be filled entered Apple Drug, paid cash for and received 100 pills of Oxycodone. The officer stopped the individual and upon further investigation, learned that she had presented a fraudulent prescription in the name of Linda Foreman. Based upon other complaints, this investigation is continuing.

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

SU Special Bulletin

On October 18, 2008 at approximately 1:45am, a Salisbury University student was robbed at gunpoint on Spruell Drive in Salisbury, MD.

The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet. The suspect then fled in a maroon colored car.

The Salisbury University Police Department has issued several bulletins this semester for similar incidents. The persons victimized in incidents such as the one described in this bulletin, often have several traits in common. A Giant Co Worker Speaks Out

"First of all, after having known Bruce for many years, I will start by saying that Bruce most likely did not write this letter. His wife did. He has a hard enough time getting out simple sentences, and figuring out how to correctly do his job even though he'd been doing it for over 14 years. Angela is right. His line was ALWAYS by far the slowest and most complained about line, of all the cashiers. He was disciplined on several occasions for customer complaints and recieved more complaints than other cashiers either do or did at the time. And as for the policy of employees not using their Bonuscards for purchases that aren't their own, that was ALWAYS the policy. Everyone new it. We were told when we were hired. We had the Read and Sign and a meeting about the new Employee Dicount Program, both before and after it began. And even if you didn't know, you'd have to raise an eyebrow when you've managed to acquire enough points in one day to pay for a $19.00 purchase. None of the other employees claimed to be unaware that what Bruce was doing was wrong. Most couldn't believe he'd actually done that after 14+ years with the company. All employees know that Giant takes employee theft VERY seriously. Even if it's only a dollar. And Bruce has seen many people get fired for stealing the smallest things. After so many years, he should have known that you will lose your job if you are found stealing from the company. The company knows that he was stealing because they have evidence. They also know that he was stealing in other ways.

Bottom line is that the only reason Bruce stayed employed at Giant for so long is because previous store management turned a blind eye to Bruce's slow lines, customer complaints and overall incompetance. A year or so ago, we got a new store manager who is very focused on following company policy. We've all had to tighten up and get better at doing our jobs, because the current management won't tolerate anything less. Whatever we were getting away with before, we are not getting away with now. I like Bruce, but everone who worked with him knew that he was incomparably slow and made mistakes that only rookie cashiers make. And whether or not anyone likes Bruce, is really beside the point. He was stealing. It was documented and he was fired. He's not the first person to steal and be fired for it and he probably won't be the last.

Oh, and for all you "Bruce fans"... Here's a little something you probably didn't know. Many cashiers complained about him "spit cleaning" his scanner, on several occasions. Yes, boys and girls, many of us have seen him spit on his scanner, where he'd lay your produce to weight it, and wipe it off with a paper towel. Why? Who knows. We do have spray cleaner at all of the registers. Unfortunately, management wanted to see it for themselves before they took action, so who knows how many times he did this throughout his career.I don't know about you, one time is just too much for me. He's a nice guy, but really not altogether there."

Do You Ever Feel Like You're Talking To Yourself?

That's my question to the Anti Albero Bloggers because over time we have been watching their numbers and quite frankly it's one of the biggest jokes I've ever seen. They're not growing. It's the same group of 10 or 12 people per day visiting their sites.

There is a Firm out there that rates Blogs and can give a fairly accurate idea as to just how well these Blogs are doing.

Not one of them tops 40 hits a day. One they've been boasting about recently doesn't even get "2" hits a day. My guess is that a select few return time and time again to see if their good buddy has posted anything. Nevertheless, Andy Harris has nothing to worry about when it comes to negative campaigning on the Internet because NO ONE reads them.

It also explains why the Kratovil Campaign was so desperate last week to get me to post something on Andy's last commercial ad. When I refused to take the bait they kept begging, GO AFTER THE DAILY TIMES THEN. Nope, not interested.

The reason they became so irate was because they know my numbers/hits and there's absolutely no way they can get the message out there without Salisbury News. So here's my message to the Kratovil Campaign, BITE ME!

I watch some of these ads on television against Andy Harris and all I can think of is, ONCE A FREAKIN LAWYER, ALWAYS A FREAKIN LAWYER. Do these ads tell you the reason Andy voted against ALL of these bills they mention was because of the PORK added to them and he was the only Senator MAN ENOUGH to stand up for what's right? Does Kratovil actually believe Andy Harris doesn't support all of these wonderful groups the commercial mentions.

Instead of running a campaign based on truth, Kratovil gets in front of a crowd, (every single time I've heard him) and talks about how he would never run a negative ad campaign. Frank Kratovil is so full of sh!t it isn't funny. He's a typical lawyer who wouldn't know the truth if it smacked him in the face.

In the mean time, be very careful what you believe any more because the Democrats, (that includes Wayne Gilchrest) will tell you any lie they can just to get into Office. At least Andy Harris has a track record that can be challenged and he'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. What does Kratovil have. Well, he's a lawyer. Lawyers don't need much when they lie.

Jobs are hard to come by this day and age. The economy is depressing the American people like no other.

I was reminiscing with a high school friend that I hadn't seen since graduation. We talked about families, jobs and the good ole times we used to have in high school, which led me to think about my first job. So tell me . . .

Where was your first job? How old were you? What was your position? What did you do with your first and following pay checks? How long did you keep your first job? Did you quit or where you fired?

My first job was at Dave White's Pittsville Dinnette. I was 13. I kept that job until I got my license at 16 when I got another job. I quit because I wanted to work with computers. My Mom and Dad had bought me a 1965 Ford Mustang, so what money I didn't spend on clothes and nonsense stuff, I tried helping out with the car renovations. I still remember the hours . . . I worked 2 school nights a week from 5:30 - 8:30. Then I'd work Friday and Saturday night, and Sunday morning 7am - 3pm. I hated the job, but looking back now, it wasn't so bad. Looking back now, I'm sure I could have been a little nicer to Dave....he sure put up with a lotta shit from me.

Kano’s Devoted Mother Speaks Up

"Dear Mr. Joe Albero;

On August 8, 2008 my American Staffordshire Terrier; Kano was involved in an unforeseen incident where for some unknown reason he attacked and bite a girl and her mother. I would like to explain his story to you and ask for your insight on this matter.

Kano turned 3 years old on August 10, 2008 I have had him since he was a puppy. Kano has two sisters that he has grown up with; a Great Dane and an Old English Bulldog. At the time Kano was brought home my husband and I had another pit but it became an issue with the other pit and within the 1st year we had to make the decision to find him another home. So we are aware of what it is like to have to make the decision to let go. His behavior change so rapidly to aggression and anger and we no longer wanted to take any chances. That pit truly just needed to be in a home where he was number one and the only one so that’s exactly what we did and to this day he is making out wonderfully.

Kano since the day he came home has been a bundle of joy. Kano is always happy and fully of excitement all the time. All he wants to do is play non-stop. At night if you wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom the first thing Kano does is grab his toy he thinks it’s time to play. Kano loves to takes rides and walks in the park. Throughout his whole life Kano has been around uncountable children and other animals. My father has 5 small dogs; three being Chihuahua’s whom chase him and bite him all the time and Kano does nothing and pays them no mind. Children have been around him all his life and not once has there ever been any sign of aggression.

My husband and I recently went through a separation and he chose to take Kano with him and during the move Kano was residing at the home of his son, son’s mother and son’s half sister until my husband was able to get fully moved. During this transition is when this incident took place. Now in knowing this let me explain that the half sister first off is scared to death of dogs so why the mother allowed this animal to stay in her home I do not know let alone the mother has never owned an animal before let alone an animal of this nature. I know of this because during the 4 years my husband and I have been together and the mother would come to pick up the son from our home and the half sister would come and my dogs would come near her she would scream bloody murder in fear. On numerous occasions if the child came into my home I had to remove MY dogs out of my home and outside because of her fear. So what kind of mother would put her own child in this situation? Not me but now hear I am fighting for my son’s life now.

So in saying all this brings me to the accident on August 8. What really happened in that home I can not tell you I was not there but supposedly the child screamed out for some reason and Kano lunged at her and bite her in the head above her eye and the mother intervened and Kano continued to bite the child and then bite the mother. My heart and gut tell me that child did or had been doing something to my dog and that is what caused him to lash out. Everyone whom knows Kano feels the same. Also since this matter I find that the mother has also had been dog sitting for her brother at the time that his dog has such an aggression behavior that must be kenneled at all times. So Kano was in a major transition, in an unknown territory, with unknown people, left alone constantly, and subjected to aggression behavior. Trust me I understand that non of this by far excuses what Kano did but I honestly feel it’s all factors in the case that had there not been it would not have happened.

At this time Kano is still currently being held at the Humane Society. I visit him everyday. The natural decision was to put him down but I am appealing the board on that decision and am currently awaiting the appeal trial date. The Humane Society Director has been the meanest and rudest person I have had to deal with. This Humane Society has mistreated my son. I cannot begin to tell you how many days I have gone in there and Kano has not had food nor fresh water nor has his kennel been cleaned out. Now I would like to inform you that I have done everything possible to make my son as comfortable as possible. I have brought Kano his own dog bed, toys, food, treats and even cook him food and bring it to him daily. So I do not feel in anyway that I am nor my son is inconveniencing them in anyway. It’s there job to take care of these animals no matter what the situation. Kano hardly ever gets taken out for walks. I literally have to go in there and through a rage to get things done around there for him. They have numerous employees working there that are at the utmost fear of animals period – so why are they working there? With this situation not once has anyone there followed one rule nor told us the truth about anything. From the beginning I was told I would get my dog back all I had to do was pay the impound fee and have him micro chipped and put through obedience school. Which in fact has all been lined up. Then was told he needed to ten day quarantine which to this day has never been lifted and Kano is still in a padlocked kennel. So I hope you can see my major frustration with this whole matter. You know all these people keep saying is how vicious he is but yet when I am there everyone comes in to pet him and three of the staff members have told me they want to take Kano home with them. So vicious? I don’t think so and they know it. It was just one freak situation and if Kano is put back in HIS home and given a chance to prove himself there will not be another issue. You know the way I look at this is how many people do acts of wrongful things every day and get away with it and get a second chance and only have to pay a fine, serve a small sentence or community service or what have it but they get a second chance to prove themselves. That is all I am asking for my son! I am willing to do all as I stated and even offer for them to do weekly in home inspections if they feel that is necessary. I feel that Kano deserves the second chance and if (God willing it doesn’t happen) something would arise it should and would be my decision to out him down in the future. As stated before I’ve made the decision before to remove one so I would not hesitate again.

I do not have children so therefore my dogs are my children so hearing the words that my son should be put down was like putting a knife through my heart. Killing one of my own! Where I live Kano has almost an acre of land that has a six foot privacy fence all the way around the back yard.

Joe when I saw the blog today concerning Linda Lugo and the City Council I wanted to write to you and let you know what I have been going through for over a month now with these people. I called the City Council office yesterday and still no appeal meeting has yet to be scheduled for my case. Hello are we just trying to continue to rack up my daily kennel bill or what? Hell the dog bed that I took in there for my son has now disappeared into thin air and conveniently no one knows where it is. Now I am not talking about a bed that came from Walmart this bed came from Dr. Foster & Smith. Do you think that will be reimbursed to me some how? NOT!! Everyday I go in there and Kano’s cage has not been cleaned I get some excuse why they have not gotten to it yet. I am so sick and tired of their lies and excuses for everything. Linda is so mean. There are days I go there and he has no food and I have to go off on people in order to get him fed and the poor dog eats the food in less that a minute. That’s bullshit! One day I was visiting Kano she came in the room I assume she did not realize it was me and was about to tell me to leave and once I looked at her and she realized who I was she stated “Oh it’s just you”; yeah real nice attitude to be the director of the Humane Society. Let alone lets just say you can only be “one of her kind” to work there. Linda herself has told me to my face in two different conversations your dog is going to die! Yet again real nice coming from the “Director of the Humane Society”.

My case is supposedly going to be the first to go up in front of this appeal board and I am so determined to get my dog back and not have him put down since that seems to be all the Humane Society knows what to do. Linda also told before the meeting even happened that the board already had a predetermined decision made and wished me luck.

Well Joe, since the appeal meeting on October 9, 2008 all attitudes have changed. All the lies that they told under OATH I must state at the appeal board meeting are all non-existing now. All of the staff at the Humane Society are now walking this quoted “vicious” Kano and they all bring him treats and toys from home and have given him nicknames. Amazing…. But yet again another bed of Kano’s has disappeared and Linda has offered to get him another one but I have not seen it yet. As Ray Lewis told us from the beginning I had already made the preparations for when Kano came home as far as the micro chipping, obedience classes and the kenneling. I have absolutely no problem following the guidelines considering if Kano was here this situation would have never happened but I can not take back time.

But in your blog today I noticed that you stated that the decision has been made to put down my dog and yes you can bet your life I will be appealing that decision and they know it!
