The U.S. Secret Service has two new buses in its fleet for President Obama to use on his three-day, three-state Midwestern bus trip that kicked off Monday.
CBS News has learned the buses were purchased in recent months at a cost of just under $1.1-million each and will serve as part of the fleet of vehicles the Service uses for all of its protectees.
In the past, the Secret Service would lease buses as needed and outfit them with the security and communications equipment.
"We have not been satisfied with the level of protection offered by leased buses," said a Secret Service official.

Not sure if Obamas life is worth that much,they should have checked with the Obamacare death chamber committee first.
Just what we need in times of excessive debt, $2.2 million for armored buses. How many other vehicles are there in the "fleet" that would serve just as well with just as much protection? I have to cut back on spending why doesn't our huge government?
This was a secret service decision and the republican nominee will also travel in one.
as the Prez is using this 'trip' in part as campaining time, why would he be using these vehicles. On the campaign trail you should not be using government resources. Use your own money, your own vehicles, personally owned or rented (with your own money). Isn't that the ETHICAL thing to do?? This is the way it should be regardless of what party you are affiliated with.

It's called official business and therefore it is allowed. They are required to pay a small portion and the rest is covered by the taxpayer.
1.1 million dollars a day, then what do they do with the busses now the trip is over??? Use them foe campaigning or throw them away? Answer that.
Think about another point to this argument... They spent over $2 MILLION on two buses for a THREE-DAY, THREE-STATE TRIP!!! It's not like Sarah Palin who is practically living on a bus for a few months. THREE DAYS! Why didn't he just fly???
