A Comment Worthy Of A Post

Elizabeth Pernal MD has left a new comment on your post "A PRMC Letter To The Editor":

On 8/5/2011 I received official notice that as of 10/15/2011 I would no longer have obstetric call coverage at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. According to the medical staff by-laws I must have obstetric call coverage to practice obstetrics at PRMC. On 8/15/2011 I provided written notice to the president of the medical staff at PRMC that I will have no obstetric call coverage after 10/15/2011, and thus will be unable to practice obstetrics at PRMC after 10/15/2011. PRMC has been working with me to find alternative call coverage until 12/31/2011. My office is beginning the process of notifying my patients that unless things change, I will be unable to practice obstetrics at PRMC after 10/15/2011. I will continue to practice gynecology at PRMC with appropriate gynecologic only call coverage.

Maybe Dr. Pernal doesn't want to actually do OB anymore--who would blame her.

Very unfortunate to hear this news!! She is by far the best OB/GYN in Salisbury. Hope things work out and PRMC is able to find coverage after 12/31/2011!!!!
Is Dr Lindsey leaving???

Hopefully something changes with this. Pernal delivered my first child in February and I couldn't have chosen a better doctor!

Perhaps the liability insurance has become unmanagable.
People think suing has no concequeses.

Dr. Pernal is the best- i'm devasted. I hate practically being forced to have to go TLC where you're just another number. The relationship with Dr. Pernal and her patients is priceless. I've never been happier anywhere else. Dr. Pernal PLEASE find a way to continue to practice OB care- I'm pregnant and can't fathom switching in the middle of my pregnacy.

6:49, i too am pregnant and a patient of dr.pernal. i have had many complications and am due exactly 1 month after the deadline. i am devasted that not only will i have to find a new doctor, but that it will be forced on me. i trust dr pernal and know her. she knows me. at TLC you don't even get to choose just one doctor to see, you move around from doctor to doctor. that is not what i want for my care and would never choose it on my own.

What! I love Dr. Pernal! She delivered my daughter. I will be so heart broken if I have to go to TLC next time!

Sounds like Obamacare kicking in early!

Isn't it wonderful that you no longer can choose your Doctor. Rings to the tone of socialized medicine.

Change.....how's it working for you now for all of those who voted for NOBAMA!

Read this morning about the chief radiologist at PRMC was found guilty of rape and sex abuse! But yet we have a professional such as Dr. Pernal who no longer can deliver babies at PRMC after October 15! Something is wrong with this picture.

4105466400 ask for patient experiences and u can tell them how u feel. Call PRMC if you're pregnant/patient of Pernal's and file a complaint. There has to be SOMETHING they can do.

Folks there are two sides to every story! Ever wonder why she has been "singled out"? There is some major reason why this Dr can not take call anymore. Check out her C-Section rate, check out alot of the C-Sections are after her office closes....and the list of reasons may be even longer.

And for all of you who are talking about TLC, they are not the only place you can go. There are alot of excellent Dr's to go to here.

Dr Pernal, why are they stopping your call. Can we hear the other side of the story? And are you the only Dr there are doing this to?

It actually has nothing to do with Dr. Pernal's care 1013. Dr. Lindsay was released from PRMC and she was Dr. Pernal's coverage. Because Dr. Pernal no longer has coverage, she can't cannot have hospital privlidges either. She's not being singled out- it's hospital protocol.

Unfortunaley, most of the other OBs in the area no longer practice. TLC, Dr. Lindsay, and Dr. Pernal were it. Now Dr. Pernal and Lindsay can't deliver at the hospital, therefore TLC is the only other option in Salisbury. Dr. Pernal is an excellent physician. I've been to TLC 5 years ago before I had my first child. They treat you like a number and the office is PACKED. I would wait forever to be seen. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I happily switched to Dr. Pernal. Other factors are also involved, such as are the Obs even accepting new patients and do they take the insurance we have. It's not black and white and if you were halfway through your pregnancy and had to deal with starting over and establishing a relationship with someone you've never met so they can deliver your child- you'd be upset too!

9:33, what does obama or the government have to do with this at all? nothing. you tea cup fruit cakes are getting crazier and crazier every day. hey the tides went out later than they should of today. is that obama's fault too?

Anonymous said...

Yes, it does have to do with the government, partly. TLC doctors receive federal funds, and Dr. Pernal does not. That's why TLC doctors cannot share on-call duties for Dr. Pernal.

First, NO ONE is forcing or making anyone go to TLC. Yes they will be the only practice that can deliver at PRMC but there are MANY options! Deliver at home with a mid-wife, go to another hospital to have your baby. It is your right as a patient to seek whoever you want as your MD! Yes I am a patient of TLC I have never felt like a number, like I was being rushed or that they did not have time to address any questions or concern that I had during each of my 3 pregnancy & my last was high risk! With that said Dr. Pernal is a great doctor and will be missed not only by her patients but the community.
