President Barack Obama will likely lose his re-election bid without a high turnout in African-American communities, but that turnout is being threatened by the economic pain suffered in urban communities during Obama’s administration.
This critical issue helps explain Obama’s meeting Thursday with two leading organizers in the African-American community, Marc Morial of the National Urban League and Benjamin Jealous of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
It “remains to be seen” if African-American voter turnout will be reduced by the sour economy, Jealous said in an interview outside the White House. But he added: “What we learned from 2010 is when you stay home, you lose.”
The president listened to several job-creation proposals and will focus on jobs once the debt-ceiling debate is wrapped up, said Morial. The country faces a “great crisis in jobs … [and] we remain committed to a strong relationship with the president and his administration,” said Morial, who declined to discuss the economy’s impact on Election Day turnout.
I thought that Obama and Biden had been concentrating on jobs since January of 2009???? – Ed.

Can't blame them for not supporting Obama as much this go round the black community is feeling the economy more than most.
Less government spending reduces overall demand. This is particularly worrisome when, as now, consumers and businesses are still holding back. Fewer government workers have paychecks to buy stuff from other Americans, some of whom in turn will lose their jobs without enough customers.
DSA
your just a wealth of information , I might add that fewer government workers may bring about a new outlook on government productivity.
Maybe , just maybe , the government workers will realize they have to EARN a paycheck.
DSA your plan to stimulate the economy is to hire more government workers to spend money? First off the government doesn't produce a damn thing and creating a work force is not the governments role. The government needs to get out of the way of business stop robbing them of most of their profits so they can invest in their own company and hire more people then the economy will come back. Trickle down gave this country decades of prosperity in-spite of the Socialist Democrats.
"fewer government workers may bring about a new outlook"
"Maybe , just maybe , the government workers will realize they have to EARN a paycheck."
> Yes, that outlook will be DIRE. Before you start groaning about how your tax dollars are being wasted on all these paychecks, remember that not all of these workers are bureaucrats sitting behind fancy desks and puffing on Cuban cigars. They DO earn a paycheck! Many work harder than you NO DOUBT! Would you really walk up to a fireman, a cop, or a nurse and talk all that dookie you just told me? I HIGHLY doubt it. Those cops and firemen on 9/11 would get your head straight REAL quick, buddy.
Nearly half of the government workers are employed in our schools and universities.
there are police officers, firefighters, garbage collectors, maintenance workers, doctors, nurses, prosecutors, judges and public defenders, as well as the people who patch our roads or lay our water lines.
So, yeah if we had fewer of these employees I feel confident that you would eventually be complaining about crime, your kid's class size, your kids crappy teachers, wait time at the hospital, your house that burned down, your trash waiting to be picked up, or the terrible roads. You guys are all too quick to run to the aid of big business while not even considering all the things the public sector does for you that the private sector WILL NEEEEEVER DO! I fail to see all the virtue in big business that you all see. . .I remember Enron, Halliburton, and BP. Not to mention General Electric who are like the equal to Leona Helmsley with their tax dodging!
As Leona once said, "Only the little people pay taxes." This is the attitude of your god big business.
Chew on that for a while, Rockefeller.

God I wish Ross Perot was here.
Then he could tell you: trickle down economics is POLITICAL VOODOO! Prosperity trickles UP not DOWN!! Something big business Republican Conservatives have forgotten over the years! You can't kill the working man and sell him shit at the same TIME!!Ross is a smart man and I miss him being around. Of course what did he know. . .he's only the 99th richest man IN THE WORLD!!! God you guys are either dumb or brainwashed. . .have not decided yet.
:o) <========= Smile its Friday!
Over achieving risk takers make the money you don't have to be a economic genius. The fact that trickle down has worked every time it's been tried might give you a clue.Even a blind man can see if you allow a business to be profitable they will expand and grow which creates more jobs and actually more revenue for the government in the long run. But if your a Socialist you want to tax them out of business and have high unemployment so the people will have no choice but to be on the public dole.
You don't know very much, do you 7:10?
"It is better to ask some of the questions than to know all of the answers." - James Thurber.
Will you trust Warren Buffet instead? He's the third wealthiest person in the world! Does he know enough about economics? I mean. . .I haven't seen you quote anyone with any sense.
"If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further," Buffett told ABC News in an interview set to air later this week. "But I think that people at the high end -- people like myself -- should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we've ever had it."
"The rich are always going to say that, you know, just give us more money and we'll go out and spend more and then it will all trickle down to the rest of you. But that has not worked the last 10 years, and I hope the American public is catching on," Buffett said in the clip from ABC News"
