BREAKING NEWS: Maryland’s Job Loss Rate Highest in Nation

Maryland continued to shed jobs in June, tying with Kansas for the fastest rate of job loss in the nation over the past year, the federal government estimated Friday.

The state's unemployment rate hit 7 percent, up from 6.8 percent in May, the U.S. Department of Labor said.

Maryland lost nearly 15,000 jobs in the 12 months ending in June, according to the agency's estimates, which are drawn from surveys and can be revised later as more information filters in. That loss was slightly more than half a percent of the employment base, worst in the country alongside Kansas, with Delaware and Georgia close behind.

But Maryland's month-over-month loss — 300 jobs — wasn't nearly as bad as it was in May, when the state shed nearly 10,000 positions. The state Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation emphasized that change, calling May an "outlier."

C'mon people. A ton of people in Maryland work for businesses that serve the Fed govt. Congress hasn't passed a budget in how long? Agencies can't spend any money, so businesses can't make payroll, so people lose their jobs.

Obama/O'Malley have nothing to do with it. They also won't have much to do with a jobs rebound either!

How is that change working for you Dumbocrats now???

It will get worse for MD with federal budget cuts coming. Some federal agencies should be done away with and that will effect jobs in
MD. Maryland has benefited from base closures and federal spending. Trimming the deficit will have a negative effect on MD jobs. MD has been somewhat protected from the depression so far, but her time is coming.

Obama and O'Malley are reason , power has it's advantages , go back to sleep.

So your saying they can't do anything about it?
Why do they say they can?

Are you on crack? Every government agency is spending money like there's no tomorrow. It is true that they haven't passed a budget. They are operating under a series of continuing resolutions.

Government spending is at an all time high. Thanks to the BRAC, we've got even more federal jobs pouring into the Once Free State.

Sorry Skippy, those jobs leaving Maryland are PRIVATE sector jobs.

    Skippy here.

Those private sector jobs work to support the public sector agencies.

Believe me, they are NOT spending money like there's no tomorrow. Those CR's we are working with have everything frozen.

Ask around at govt contractors...things are quite dicey right now.

Do you really still believe there is a difference between the 2 parties? REally?

I say the system is an illusion created so we will THINK we have some decision to make, some power. The game is rigged. No matter who wins we lose. Hasen't that become obvious yet?

A huge difference especially now. I know both parties have moved to the left but thanks to the TEA party there is accountability on the right now.
