Cape Henlopen Students Score Well on State Test

The results of Delaware’s latest round of student testing are in, and Cape Henlopen students have made a strong showing among districts statewide.

The Department of Education officially released its report from the Delaware Comprehensive Assessment System July 21 based on a series of computerized tests given to students last fall, winter and spring. The new test replaced the paper-and-pencil exam that had been administered to students over the past decade.

Department of Education officials anticipated lower scores than in previous years but say students exceeded their expectations.

"The results were better than expected," said Alison Kepner, spokeswoman for the Department of Education. "The percentage of students meeting the standard was lower than last year, but that's because we raised proficiency standards and it was a new test."
