Wicomico County Cooling Station Today

At 2 PM this afternoon there were only four (4) people seeking relief at the Wicomico County Cooling Station. Up to that time, only nine (9) persons total had sought shelter from today’s oppressive heat. Regardless of how many had come in, it was good to know that Wicomico citizens had a place to go if they were unable to be in an air conditioned space.
Danny Drew, Emergency Preparedness Program Supervisor for the Wicomico County Health Department, asked that we continue to inform our readers about the availability of the Cooling Station AND to add some more information to our previous post.
For all of those seeking relief from the heat, please be advised that there is no entertainment available at the Cooling Station except for one television. Especially if you have kids, you will probably want to bring books, playing cards, or board games to keep you and yours occupied while at the cooling station. Also remember to bring any snacks that you may want. Bottle water is available at the Cooling Station, but no food.
The cooling center is in the Flanders Room of Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, 500 Glen Avenue, Salisbury. The Flanders Room faces Glen Avenue. You can park in the WY&CC lot or across Glen Avenue in the old mall lot.
Hours are 10 AM to 8 PM today and tomorrow.

The homeless are the ones they could have probably benefited from this but how were they to know about it or even get there?

7:54-- That's what I was wondering. I called HALO today to see if they needed volunteers to help with the heat they said the civic center was handling it, so I called the civic center and they said the health dept. was handling it, called the health dept. and they said they had it covered. I wonder if they had a van to transport people to the civic center? and you know the homeless wear everything they own so as not to have it stolen!

Doesn't look like to me that the homeless people got the message - only 4 people there and probably not one of them homeless. What a runaround to get one answer to one question and they still forgot to inform the homeless. Only in Salisbury.

so how much is this going to cost us tax paying citizens to keep those 4-8 people cool.?

You people will always find something to complain about. What do you want them to do? Ride around and chase down homeless people? Then you would be whining that they are wasting gas.

So, I assume that we should risk people dying because we have to pay a few bucks to run the cooling station? I hate to see tax dollars wasted, but this is one example of what your local government is supposed to do.

Why don't you show up at a council meeting and complain about real waste like Pollitt cutting Fire Inspectors so he doesn't have to lay off a building inspector that isn't needed.

So? What was the point (if any) you were trying to make?

The same amount if there was a hundred people there and the same amount if there was zero people there.
