U.S. Police Deaths Up 14% So Far In 2011, Report Says

Law enforcement fatality figures nationwide have climbed during the first half of 2011, according to a preliminary report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

Ninety-eight officers were killed in the line of duty in the first six months of this year, the organization said in a news release Wednesday. The number represents a 14% spike in officer fatalities compared to the same time frame in 2010.

How many were related to 'criminals' and how many were related to the officers abuse of power?

I wonder how many people have died at the hands of the police in the same time frame?

12:14 has got to be a cop. We are idiots, huh? Tell THAT to all the people 6 feet under (and innocent of crime) who have been murdered by police. Tell it to the people who were beaten, some to death, by the police. Also innocent. Tell it to the citizens, who EVERY DAY, see police use their gun and badge as a carte blanche ticket to do whatever they please. That hardly begins to address the "abuse of power" by the biggest armed gang in the country. But its a start, and there are hundreds of video's and even more pointedly, hundreds of court cases to prove it. Just obeying the law doesn't mean you won't get shot, beaten, robbed, extorted, raped, or tazered. Just ask the parents of those tennage girls who were STRIP SEARCHED --- TWICE!! -- for protesting abortion. Hey, Sarge!! Come on in here!! We're getting ready to strip the teenage girls again!! And why isn't there a figure on how many citizens have been killed? After all, the police WORK FOR US!!! Although, they THINK they are "public MASTERS', not public SERVANTS. We should know how many of us they have killed....

People aren't respecting the law because the law is not respectable. Point blank.

Imclain,
Calm down, I can see the vein on your fore head as you type. I only wish I was a cop, then I could find a legitimate way of beating you. Relax, police have a job to do, parts of which are dangerous. A job they picked, and are probably aware of, people may get hurt and possibly die caused by their actions. Since you have enough time searching for misconduct of police and have a fetish on researching the negative actions caused by police, take some of that time and research the positive. Guaranteed the positive will out weigh the negative. Don't dishonor the police who have died, just because you have had a bad experience with the them. I bet you are the type of person who calls the police for speeding motorists, kids playing in the street, dogs running in your yard, etc... Remember while responding to your bi-weekly complaints, they may get hurt trying to help you.
Stay off the internet, get a job and stop watching movies. The events discribed in your testimonial seemed to be a clip from the newest police drama on the screen. If you want to be police, apply. Relax, and yes you are still an Idiot.
