GOVERNOR O’MALLEY STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S VISIT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND

COLLEGE PARK, MD (July 22, 2011) – Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s visit to the University of Maryland at College Park:

“America’s jobs recovery depends on the balanced approach President Obama discussed in College Park this morning.  We were honored to host him once again at the University of Maryland.

“As the President said, Americans ‘didn’t choose a dysfunctional government.’  As a nation, we must pay our bills on time, and we must find a fiscally responsible way forward that balances revenues and cuts, so that we can continue to create jobs and compete to win in the new global economy.

“To create jobs a modern economy requires modern investments. We can retire the Bush-deficit and accelerate the jobs recovery, but we need a balanced approach that allows America to pay its bills and create jobs at the same time.

“This is the balanced approach that President Obama is rightfully calling for in his negotiations with Congress. We thank President Obama for visiting Maryland and for his leadership.”
