Economic Impact of DEW Tour

The question any number of people are asking as the Dew Tour competition heats up in downtown Ocean City is what kind of economic impact this national-scale event will generate.

The short answer is more than most people realize. It is expected to net the city at least $6 million worth of advertising spots, attract a minimum of 10,000 tourists and garner hours of live television coverage, according to Chris Prybylo, vice president of events with Alli, Alliance of Action Sports, the company organizing the four-day Pantech Open.

When the Dew Tour was in Baltimore in 2008, more than 52,500 fans packed Camden Yards parking lot. It generated approximately $10 million in economic impact. During the inaugural year, 2005, the event drew more than 55,000 fans.

We've already had it out with a group of these skateboarders yesterday. They were jumping over our 4 ft painted brick wall and messed it up. We asked if they were going to repaint it for us and they replied "we will IF YOU PAY US."

Hats off to Mayor Rick Meehan and OC council for helping and promoting the Dew Tour in OC.We need more positive action from elected officials like them to get events that kids and grown-ups alike can enjoy!
